most of the people that use tech stuff scale with ap, viktor, ziggs, heimer, rumble, blitz, ori and pretty much anyone that isnt vi or an adc
either way him using ap makes more sense considering hes a smaller guy that using his inventions to fight rather than physical strength
also a small fun fact in the video ekko hits the guy 3 times because he was designed with a 3 hit passive in mind which is pretty cool

But I think it was mostly for comical effect.
The recent Ekko Q&A has confirmed that the wall is a memorial for all the people that have been lost from his community, whether it's wounded, lost or killed. Ajanus, the boy with the goggles, was killed. He was close friends with Ekko, and Ekko couldn't bring himself to leave the memorial for dear friends destroyed, so he tries again.
