The ultimate tho, invulnerability after 2.5 WHOLE SECONDS, when's that going to be helpful
Turret diving, enemy Karthus dies, dragon/baron low, other forced fights (especially when you're on the offensive) or you can chain it up with other invulnerabilities. Or use it do disengage.

It's really delayed disengage though, maybe too delayed to be practical. I see it as more of a follow up after engaging.

I get the feeling it's channeled, and it doesn't give Taric invulnerability for himself.
It's like a worse Kindred ult. Also if you use it, nobodies going to fight you they'll just kite the entire duration.

Basically MOBAFire.

I wasn't impressed by the new Taric from the champion spotlight, but now that I just played him on the PBE, I realize how strong he potentially can be. Keep in mind this was based on *one* hexakill PBE game, so don't take this as a definitive guide. Some of the things I learned were:

1. His ultimate is amazing, but you have to time it right. The key thing is that it is *not* channeled and yes Taric is affected, too. Also, it's like Kayle's ultimate in that the person affected can continue to attack and move around. So, expect a lot of tower diving when you're up against a support Taric. I imagine that a Sivir - Taric combo will be rough late game. Sivir can ultimate to help her team engage and then Taric can cast his ultimate to make them invulnerable for 2.5 seconds at the start of the fight.

2. His E stun also shoots from his bonded ally and the E area moves with Taric and his bonded ally. His E seems easily dodgeable in the champion spotlight, but that doesn't take into account the fact that its area of effect will move with Taric kind of like Lucian's ultimate will. So, while you're chasing down an enemy, cast E to try to stun them and if they move to the side to avoid it, you can move to the side with them and ensure the hit. Also, it shoots off your W bounded ally whom you can change easily. So, if your jungler comes to your lane, you can cast W on your jungler and shoot your E from them to stun the enemy laners while you and your lane partner catch up to the gank.

3. The Q healing charges get extra cooldown reduction when you hit something with your passive empowered attacks. His heal seems kind of weak at first, because you have to wait a long time after a heal to build up the 3 charges to make it fully empowered again. However, you can cast your Q heal and then hit a couple of minions (preferably executing them with your tank support item) to get at least one Q charge back quickly. Cooldown reduction will definitely be important for him, though.

4. He has mana problems early, especially if you cast Q to sustain your lane too much. You just have to be careful about it and try to make sure to only Q once you have 3 charges stacked to get the most mana efficient heal. His heal scales off both AP and his maximum health. That makes me tempted to get a Rod of Ages on him, but since he's designed to be a front laner, that probably won't give him enough survivability.

5. My general feeling was that he didn't seem tanky enough to me early on for a melee tankish support, but that feeling may have more to do with a lack of experience playing him. He has both a heal and a shield ability, so maybe with more practice, I can get used to making good harassment exchanges using them.

By the way, I don't see a solo lane Taric being viable. His damage just isn't that strong, and a lot of his power comes from being with allies:

His Q heals everyone within a circle around him. It's a weak heal if you're just healing one person, but the more people around him, the stronger it gets. Also, if he's near his bonded ally, the area that his heal affects includes the area around his partner, which also increases his power.

His W passively increases both his own armor and his lane partner's armor, so again it's stronger with a lane partner. Also, when he casts his W shield, it shields both himself and his lane partner. So, again, he gets stronger around an ally.

His E also shoots out of his lane partner as well as himself, again making him stronger with a partner.

Finally, his R ultimate will make everyone within range on his team invulnerable, so again it's stronger in a group.

So, the bottom line is solo Taric = weak. A Taric grouped can be massively strong.

Some more observations:

1. Taric's ultimate will affect the team, even if he is cc'd or killed during the 2.5 second delay, since it's not a channeled spell.

2. At first, I was going for a more aura focused build, since Taric seems designed to be a force multiplier for his team. So, my first build was eye of the equinox Mercury's Treads Frozen Heart Locket of the Iron Solari Sunfire Aegis. However, Taric lacks any cc peel other than his stun, so I think Iceborn Gauntlet will be better than the Frozen Heart. Also, a face of the mountain would give Taric yet one more shield he can cast on himself or an ally, making him that much more annoying, if you're willing to spend the extra early gold on it.

3. I'm liking a Windspeaker's Blessing mastery build better than a Bond of Stone mastery build. The Windspeaker's Blessing combined with your aoe heal allows you to increase the armor and magic resistance of multiple allies at once. Plus, it increases the benefit of all your heals and shields, and you can get the extra 5% cooldown mastery with it, which is nice.

4. I'm actually surprised by how often the E stun comes up in fights. When you use your passive empowered attacks, it reduces the cooldown on your spells, so if you combine that with lots of cooldown reduction, you might find you can use it 2-3 times in a team fight.

Well a coordinated enemy team would rather disengage until the invulnerability wears off I think. Otherwise they risk taking a lot of free damage. But yeah I also think it will see more use in aggressive situations.

Which is why I'm mentioning situations where the enemy won't be able to kite. I don't know about the channeling (I haven't read you have to channel anywhere and I thought you would both be invulnerable) but I don't mind, giving a fighter or carry a few seconds of free rampage time is definitely not bad. Kindred doesn't give invulnerability, it leaves you just barely alive, and it also works for the enemy team so I don't agree with that statement.

A few more observations:

1. I was partly wrong earlier when I said the ult doesn't stop if Taric dies. If Taric dies, the ult will not go off around him, but it will continue to go off around his bound ally.

2. The range of Taric's AOE heal and ult is pretty small, so you definitely need to be aware of how close you are to your allies and manage who you are bound to well to maximize the number of allies who are affected by your heal and ultimate.

3. Since your E stun fires from both you and your bound ally (think of how Lulu's Glitterlance fires from both Pix, Faerie Companion and Lulu), you can can create some interesting fire patterns to maximize the number of enemies hit. I smiled at one shot I had in a game today where an overlapping X pattern caught 3 enemies in a single stun shot.

4. If your team lacks engage abilities, you might consider building a Turbo Chemtank. That way, Taric can initiate the engage with its active, and if he and/or his teammates catch an enemy or two, Taric can pop his ultimate to prevent the enemy from effectively counter attacking.
