Ugh that ult looks awful.
I agree, it does seem a little bit underwhelming when comparing it to the ultimates that Riot has been dishing out on some of the newer or reworked champs. But it does seem to make for a really great ganking tool based on what I've seen cuz it gets you there really fast and blocks off the escape.

Even if the enemy has an escape tool, a well-timed

I've played a few games with her in normals, and although my stats were terrible since I'm still learning her, I managed to make a few cool plays with her. When playing mid, her ult is awesome for roaming ganks to the side lanes. I also managed to wall off an otherwise escaping enemy in the middle of our jungle. I also managed to save an inhibitor by throwing a wall between the inhibitor and the enemy team. It bought enough time for the rest of my team to get there and push away the enemy team.
I've started playing her a bit as a support, too. I think she has potential, but admittedly I'm still figuring her out. I think maxing her W (the knockup/knockback) first as a support is the right call. At max rank and CDR, it gets down to a 5 second cooldown, so you might be able to use it more than once in a fight. Her passive is actually useful as a support, helping you get around faster as you're putting wards out. So far, I've found her damage to be pretty mediocre, but I think that has more to do with me still getting used to using the EW combo correctly and finding the right build order.
I find that I have no difficulty with mana, which is nice. In mid, I can build a
Rylai's Crystal Scepter immediately and my
Doran's Ring and mana regen mastery is perfectly fine to manage mana sustain. Also, I like
Lich Bane on her. Her Q has a low cooldown at max rank and CDR, so you can proc the lich bane quite often, and the extra run speed is nice on her.

The W is wonky as hell imo. Wish that became a one caster just like Rumble R
It's how I feel as well, although I get that the spell behaves like that to give you time to adjust to it's cast time.
