It does only proc off melee attacks. I guess it's because a lot of carries get Brutalizer and decide to just build it into Ghostblade.
TreeEski despises Youmuu's on any ranged champion. Lately, I've started to agree. Last Whisper+I-Edge is so much stronger as a ranged DPS core.

I've always thought Last Whisper > Youmuu's because it gives superior ArP and more damage, and also when I have an item with an active (Excluding Zhonya's) I never remember to use it, so the active is pretty much useless for me. I Only tend to get it if I'm going for crit chance, or need the CDR, hence why it is so awesome on a crit GP build.
Teamwork is essential. It gives the enemy someone else to shoot at.

Why can't you have Last Whisper AND Ghost blade?
The active means you're still a bit of the active, which makes Turrets go down like a pile of toy blocks, and the CDR is very nice.
Even if ranged can't get the duration extensions, they can still get the burst of MS+AS when they want it.

Call me dumb and slap me silly but I never read the fine print. I had absolutely NO idea ranged carries got less off this item.. Damn need to change my Sivir build.

Because you'll get less damage with that than with only one of the items and a damage/crit item. It's probably because flat and %ArP doesn't work losslessly together.
