Hellooo! :) I think I placed a post on your support-guide a couple of years ago! I took a break from LoL for a while, but I'm back and I'm playing my favorite champion once again!

I really love your guide and how much thought you put into it! I was wondering if you are going to do an update of your Lux Support guide anytime soon? I'm using your mid-guide now to play Lux AP support, but I'm interested if there is anyway to optimize my build/items/runes, given that I... well... play support :p.

Also I was wondering if you could do a little more explanation on why we're not using Luden's anymore? Many Lux guides still recommend Luden's Companion, but I'm sticking to your guide. I feel like my builds without Ludens are just better, but I can't really explain why. In any case, I don't like the fact that Luden's is a gun now xD It just feels wrong on Lux... xD

I think Horizon Focus is absoutely amazing. I love how it gives vision, especially on support Lux. It can help teammates to chase down enemies. I'm a little more in doubt about Malignance. I feel like I need it for mana, but I'm not so sure about the ability haste on ultimate. Do we really need that? Some games I feel like I even more ability haste on my ult, but there is also lots of games where I feel like I have more than enough cooldown on my ult. What do you think? Also considering Lux support?

I would love to hear from you! :)

Hi Yanaike,

Yes I remember you!! Welcome back to League :)

I absolutely will be updating my support guide soon! It's been a long time coming since the start of this season for sure and apologies for not updating it sooner- theres just so many changes and I have not had the time for my support guide yet! Even just updating this guide takes a while, especially during the beginning of the season when they drastically change builds based on item changes early on. For Lux support rn, you can either go AP and follow this guide, besides of course getting the support item (Zak'Zak is the best for AP). For support, dream maker is the best if you're going super shields! Staff -> Moonstone/shielding item -> Imperial is kinda the main build but tbh you can be really flexible with this depending on the game (ardent for a lot of attack based, etc). I hope to get it updated soon for you but I hope this helps a bit!

As for Luden's, its been a really bad item since the new season. They nerfed it heavily and took away the magic pen, which is what made it the best mythic for Lux last season. I think its gotten 2-3 buffs so starting this patch, its not a bad item at all! I would highly suggest using it if you like burst Lux, especially in the support role where your items are limited based on gold so every item counts. The reason why malignance is so good is because its just a solid item stat wise and the pool is actually really cool. Since its based on damage, ive had dragon or teamfights where I've made a HUGE puddle and it really helps a lot with zoning in fights. Also your ultimate is about 19s at level 16 if you have ultimate hunter on top of this. Once I am level 16, I will use my ultimate really liberally to get carries low right before an objective and they're forced to back, try to steal objectives, etc. There have even been fights where I get to ult twice and it feels really good! Or you can get a pick and then siege mid and have your ult back up again for their defense. Her ult with elder and malignance is also really dangerous - i have only used my ult on a full health carry and killed them with elder lol. I was really hesitant about malignance in the beginning of the season but its an overall really good item for Lux.
I do think, however, Ludens will be the go-to once its a better item since Lux's primary idea is burst. I have not played this patch enough to know if we can swap it fully over to Ludens yet but its definitely getting there. You're so right though, the gun on Lux feels out of character and almost illegal lol.
Horizon has been absolutely fantastic this season and tbh the vision exposure is insane and really underrated!!
I have been going malignance -> horizon -> rabadons in most of my games and it has felt soooo good! We will see how the patches change the Lux build though, especially bc on the PBE before this season, stormsurge and shadowflame were a really dynamic duo for Lux (and burst in general) but storm has gotten some massive nerfs since then.

I hope my explanations help and please feel free to ask any more questions if you have any. Best of Lux in your games :)

can you do matchups properly? scrolling through the entire page every time and looking in the spoilers is not convenient

Hi!

I went ahead and created a more convenient way to view the matchups. I split them into 4 categories instead of 5 - and I even added a Table of Contents for each champion! Just click on the champion you want and it will take you right to that profile! Hopefully that helps with better convenience and visibility :)

Hi Vitty,

I appreciate that a lot <3 thank you for supporting me!

Haha if you ever want, I can definitely watch a game or two to help out! It's always a great idea to watch your own games to see what you think you're doing wrong and might need to change in future games! VOD reviews are soo important for improving!

There's some broken code in your Itemization section.

I realize you do offer it as an option, but wouldn't Luden's Tempest be the superior item to rush since it drastically improves your waveclear? Luden's being a viable first item seems like one of the best changes for Lux this patch. Seraph's isn't bad but I don't see that taking higher priority, especially given that Lux stacks it pretty slowly compared to other champions.

Also I'm not super sold on getting Twin Shadows late game. It seems like it could be a good item, but it's very cheap which makes it slot-inefficient in a 6 item build. By the time you're getting your final item, I'd expect something more expensive. If you're going to include such a cheap item, why not get it in the early or mid game and create picks then?

I haven't played Lux this patch yet so take the above criticism with a grain of salt. I'm more asking questions than actually claiming that you're wrong.

Oh my gosh, thank you for that, I just copied and pasted so they were all missing a bracket but it is fixed!

And no worries about claiming I'm wrong, I'm always open to criticism and if I'm wrong, I'd be glad to go change things since it will open my eyes as well since this is all new stuff! I'll share my thought process with you and I could be totally wrong about all of this and maybe I will end up liking and suggesting Luden's only in the end of this (Of course this is fresh stuff so everyone is trying to figure out what is best and who works best with what items), but here we go!
I'm actually still on the fence about Luden's vs Seraph's and that's why I recommend both on my guide, but I was going to hopefully play with them a lot more and see which one is really superior soon and decide permanently. I know a lot of people were asking about what to get on Lux now so I wanted to get my ideas out there, but also make room to make adjustments when necessary.

Luden's does SEEM like a better item for waveclear and since she is a poke mage, but there are two reasons why I still am kinda turning away from it. The first big reason is that I want the splash damage for poke potential but I also have to rely on it for waveclear on those pesky back minions. If you use your E on the whole wave or use your E and it doesn't have those three ranged minions in the middle of your bubble, Luden's won't even kill the back minions and you will have to go up and auto them anyways (or use your Q which can be dangerous in lane, or they might die before you can even get to them since they'll have low health after your E damage and then will die before you even have the chance to auto them). The second reason is because it only gives 500 mana. Lux's E has a 130 mana cost at level 5, and constantly spamming that (which you will need to do at least once every wave, if not twice to kill all the minions), Lux will run out of mana way too fast. I can definitely see Luden's being a good item if you want to try to roam and snowball but due to mages waveclear being so quick, lately it's been let's clear the wave fast and farm back and forth and back and forth until one of us runs out of mana and has to go back, we try to kill each other, or someone wanders to another lane. Also in teamfights, I'm usually able to throw 3-4 E's out beforehand which is 520 mana, and then use all my spells definitely more than once in the teamfight, which is 360 for all my spells and even more if I'm using a spell more than once. After we hopefully win the teamfight, I'll be using my E to push out waves and take turrets and maybe even take an enemies camp or two before going back, or maybe help with an objective. All of this uses A LOT of mana. Even with Manaflow Band, you can do this all in under 75s and be way out of mana before it even hits. If not, you will have to preserve your mana, which means way less poking before teamfights, not clearing waves which means less minions aka less gold aka less items aka less damage. There is also blue buff but that isn't guaranteed, especially if you are behind, and I normally don't get a blue buff until ~20m anyways unless I have a really good jungler or they don't need it except early-mid game for XP. (Lee Sin, etc)

I like Seraph's because you won't have mana problems and then you are also able to take The Ultimate Hat vs Manaflow Band, which I actually wasn't sold on for a while, but it can really reduce your ultimate cooldown by 10-5 seconds, and of course even more when you get those fresh cooldowns from killing someone with your ultimate. Let's say we buy Seraph's at level- 9 or 10. Seraphs with NO tear stacks gives 650 mana and Lux's mana at level 9 is around 783. Buying Seraph's with NO stacks gives 93AP, which is 3AP more than Luden's. Yes, true, we do not have the Luden's proc and that should be accounted for, but we also can see that Seraph's at max level and max stacks will give ~132AP (Lux's spells have high AP values so this is a very good thing) and a ~700 shield that she can use every 120 seconds (which Lux can really use since she is so vulnerable). The refund of 25% of mana spent is also really helpful! I have been able to stack my Archangels into Seraph's between 20-25 minutes into the game as well, which isn't too awfully long, which is nice since that's when the big team fights really start happening.

Also for waveclear, Seraph's into just a Needlessly Large Rod actually does clear the wave for a while, and I rush Rabadon's second since the 40%AP is super important on Lux and after buying Rabadon's, you should have no problem for the rest of the game one shotting the ranged minions.

As for Twin Shadows, yeah, I definitely need to work with it more. I like the stats it gives, although I do wish it gave a little more AP but then it would be busted on supports. I really like it but with my build, it's been feeling weird buying it mid game because I want at least Oblivion Orb for the magic pen since Lux is always good with magic pen, and then definitely Morellonomicon if they have healing on their team, and then higher elos always have MR after that so I always have to get Void Staff. I just picked it because Lux LOOKS for picks because one good pick can win a game, and having those ghosts can make that happen easy. It gave the CDR Lux needed since nothing else in my guide besides the mana item gives CDR (Mana item + transcendence + that gives the 40% lux wants), and movement speed is always good on Lux. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll have to keep playing with it. I'm wondering if maybe it's best to get the Oblivion Orb and then get it right after. I don't want to get it super early because even if you catch someone out with the ghosts, you won't have the damage to even burst them down anyways, so it would be rather useless to have, unless you are maybe using it to gank bot or something (which then maybe it could be good early game for a roaming tool, I'd have to test it out more to see!)

I also have to test Spellbinder out more, as the stats are really good for Lux and it does help you burst someone down a little bit better, although it is a funky item and works better on someone like Syndra.

In the meantime, let me know what you think of my points and I'm fully open to any more criticism you have because I'd love insight on what you might think is best, as my thoughts could have big flaws that I'm just missing out on, and I also want to make sure to have the correct information down for this guide as well!

Thanks Psi again and sorry about the long post, thank you so much for the read

Don't worry, I'm no stronger to long comments. :P

Can't really say much about your replies other than they've given me something to think about. I really need to play Lux and try some of this stuff before I can draw any real conclusions. I'm still leaning towards Luden's Tempest + Manaflow Band but I'll try your Seraph's + Ult hat combo too.

I might be overvaluing Twin Shadows, but I still feel like buying it 6th doesn't make much sense. You have E and Farsight Alteration as vision options for checking bushes/baron, so it'd really just be for picks and at that stage of the game you're unlikely to find an isolated target that isn't protected by their team. You could get Banshee's Veil or Zhonya's Hourglass as a 6th item and still get CDR + more useful team fight stats.

Also this is a small thing, but I feel like since there are pretty good "greed" items you can buy right now (mana item into deathcap into magic pen), I'm not sure if Mejai's Soulstealer is ever really necessary. If you can not die for most of the game, you can probably just build deathcap and void staff and carry. Then again I've never been a huge fan of Mejai's so maybe I'm just looking for reasons to eliminate it as an option. :P
