Yeah that's what I mean. I feel (operative word feel, I probably don't do much either) like I'm following that but whether I win or lose is random. It's probably that nobody else is trying to capture points and I don't realize how little the team is actually doing as a whole till the game ends. Come to think of it, when Dominion is in rotation isn't it actually Ascension? Or does old Dominion still pop up as well?
I guess the hard part of Dominion was that there wasn't really a big snowballing effect like with other maps where taking a turret does not only give a permanent edge but also really gives more control of the map. Taking a turret in Dominion almost meant giving up map control in a way. That's how I recall it at least.

I'll take you up on that offer. Just answer me one thing: does it get better the higher you climb and should I find someone half-decent to play with to climb faster?

EDIT: That said, I still have no idea how it works. What do you play? I usually play a tank at bot (
There are two current metas: support and jungle. If you have no pre-mades to climb with (my case), jungle is the way to go, since people are infamous for their unreliability.
Top Lane takes an AD Bruiser/Carry and farms as much as possible. Bot Lane takes an AP Carry and shoves wave after wave. Jungler clears the camps and ganks. Since there is no way to reliably control vision, jungler is a very powerful role and a lot of responsibility falls upon them. If they power farm all game, the enemy jungler will be able to easily apply pressure on whatever lane he feels like. If he decides to duo with a lane (and ignore his jungle), then the enemy jungler now has double the camps to receive experience from.
Also, a lot of champions aren't really good in 3v3 and people don't seem to grasp the concept of "Why can't I play
