We already have a feature called Comment-To-Vote (you can enable it by checking the box that says "Require Comments to Vote" in the Basic Setup tab at the bottom of the page) which forces any member who votes on a guide to leave a comment. This lasts for the first 20 votes on a guide, then it's disabled.
While it would be nice if every downvoter left feedback, the reality is that C2V discourages users from voting, leaving us with fewer votes overall. Many people who downvote don't leave legitimate criticism and you'd also be losing people who would have upvoted your guide, but didn't want to go through the hassle of leaving a comment.
Especially with the advent of guest voting, making an even stricter C2V system doesn't make much sense when you can vote on a guide while logged out.

Thanks to Jovy for the sig!
I guess the good does come with a bad. I'm assuming then it cannot be implemented such that up-votes would not require comments but down-votes would require comments so that the guide can be fixed etc... But I guess that would become biased.
You need to log in before commenting.
As the title states, is it possible to enable forcing of comments on the down vote feature? If someone didn't like a guide for a specific reason, The author would probably like to know the reason so they can improve their guide quality or have a chance to justify it? I think it would be fair on both parties to improve the quality of the guides on this site.
(p.s. I haven't down voted any guides so if there is already something like this in place, my bad).
Thanks.
