Great questions, firstly the twin shadows. Yes it is super beneficial with the glacial augment builds, however since Ahri is a burst mage assassin, she excels in catching enemies out of position. In which I grab twin shadows that help me do just that, for example when I look to roam bot or top, the shadows will slow enemies down that will either A. slow so you can effectively a charm, B. Helps your teammates engage on the slowed enemies, or C. burn enemy sums. The item really mixes well with Ahri's kit of go in, burst and get out, plus you can also use it as a disengage if your ult is down.

And Ahri's charm. Her charm is actually her weakest ability, when I began playing Ahri, I too believed maxing her Charm was better, however, the cooldown is longer, the mana cost is higher, and it doesn't do as much damage as Ahri's Fox-Fire ability. If you look into my guide under abilities, study the dmg, mana cost, and cooldown per level of each abilities. Simple attacks you can use with Fox Fire is simply just Auto Attack and W (fox-fire). Because the 3 fires will prioritize AA's and Charmed Enemies, so this will be used almost as much as your Q. Ahri's charm is mainly for that engage, cause once you use the charm its on cooldown, and it's longer than your other abilities, so it wont be as much of a use in a fight after its use.

Lastly the Flash combo.
Yea Ahri's combos surrounding her flash are HUGE. But i just wanted to keep the guide simple for new players, or interested players looking to learn something new about Ahri. In terms of flash combos, all i can say is for me it's all a learning experience, to try something in the practice tool and perfecting it, but i can definitely put that in as a chapter in the coming days, I would just have to figure out how to teach it in a way everyone can understand.
