You can always archive your own guides (but in this case I archived it for you) so that it won't show up on search listings, and no one can see it e.g. make comments/vote on the guide. You can still access the guide and link it to your friends etc.
If your guide does get published again on accident or something then you can always archive the guide or tell us and we'll do it for you. :)

You can always edit the guide while it's archived, iirc once you publish your guide (while it's archived) it will be published again up until you decide to archive it.
If that makes no sense then consider it like this. Right now it'll be archived. If you make changes, save and publish your guide, it will go from archived to published. This means that if you want to not have your guide published, you'll have to archive it again to save your changes (you can always save changes without publishing and it'll be saved as a draft but if you want to have a guide that is archived and saves your changes there, you will have to publish and re-archive it in that case).
