It's not important so much as it is 5000x more effective. Being able to jab in the quick sentence in the middle of a team fight is so much easier. Also you're able to play regularly even while you're talking.
While last hitting:
"Hey, could you buy a ward on your way back and put it at dragon?"
as opposed to
Stop last hitting, type
"Buy ward on way back put dragon kk?"
The shortening is in order to try and maintain efficiency.

By vent, I just mean voice chat in general.

I find it usefull.
It does however have downsides. If you have talked together for a while, and some of the people you talk with like to kid around a lot and do jokes etc. it can easily lead to the enemy randomly starting to dominate the match. In my case I am 16, and play and talk mostly with others at my own age - this is where everything can go wrong. Because of 1 or 2 of my friends start doing jokes about others in the game etc, it can easily turn the tides of the game.
Another downside is, that when in a convo, people will oftenly say the first that comes to mind, so if someone does a reckless move and die, they'll hear about it right away. This can heavily ruin their confidence(I know that from myself) and will only make them play worse later in the game.
To talk together while playing LoL, unless every single person on your team is doing very good, it really takes some positive attitude. If someone does bad, or something, either give them suggestions on what to do, or help them out, by ganking with them, or just tell them that it's ok. This can really help you win. No kidding :P

Kirluu, isn't that in the hands of the players, and not the program? With or without voice chat, if a person is the flaming type, his teammates will eventually either read or hear it :P
When just pubstomping and going around having ***** for giggles, Ventrilo isn't "important" but rather efficient.
When going ranked/competitive the extra seconds you get from a voice chat is important AND efficient.
Generally just win-win :D
