Well, I just started playing Ryze. As a new player, I steered clear of all the champs that everyone said to try (ashe, ryze, etc) because I was convinced that they were just the easy champs that werent as good as others. Suffice it to say, this isn't really the case. I have had a BLAST playing ryze. SPAM SPAM SPAM DEAD. So to unlock his full potential, I have been using smart casting. It seems to be going alright, but it does take a little getting used to. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks of the trade to share about how to improve my smartcasting. The main problem I run into is not knowing the range of my spells. Typically it doesnt matter, but every so often I will think someones in range, try to cast a spell, and take a few steps forward and wind up in a bad spot. Any tricks to avoiding this kinda thing? Or is it just learning your range so well that it doesnt happen? Also, what other champs benefit from smart casting? Thanks!

Practice. Definitely learn the range first.

Tbh I don't see the point of smartcast Ryze - he doesn't need to combo quickly, just spam. It's a bit more important IMO that you be able to see the precise range on your skills so you know when you can get a free harass off with Overload, when you can land a snare, etc.

I prefer regular casting for most skills. Only skills that you just target and it attacks in a line or such are the skills I would use smartcasting for.

Truly, with Ryze, after you get off the first Q and your snare, you don't need anything like smartcast anyway.

Thanks to Scrax for my Evelynn Sig.I did the Yi, Anivia, and Udyr Sig.

dont use smartcast, it's a bad way to play

you're way too inaccurate with any skill that is a skill shot with smart cast, and you may position yourself badly if you smart cast instead of clicking manually.

I smartcast on every champion. AKA, I learn ranges first, I play tons of Bloodline Champions. Smartcasting is my preference.

So i guess you smartcast Nidalee's Q xaioli? Would there be any disadvantage to smartcasting it? Seems like its pretty intuitive, and it wouldnt make any difference to the Q in cougar form....

@ShenMasterFlesh the only draw back from smart casting nidalee's Q is that you dont see the exact range and since it has just a massive range sometimes that can be a bad thing but if you play with smart cast enough you get used to not seeing the ranges on skill shots.

back on topic i say smart casting is the way to go, it allows you to save that little bit of time that you would need to click which allows you to land any burst champions combo ( Malzahar, Annie, Brand) really easily since you just run your fingers down the keyboard. Plus if you ever play cassiopia it is the only way to play her.
