And I went to vote on a guide and it said I'd "already voted" when I've never even seen the guide b4...wtf?

If another account has been logged onto your IP and voted on that guide, you may not vote on it with another account from the same IP.

SO borrowing a computer means I can't vote on a guide they voted on? wtf is that about...

EDIT: I too have had this issue...I had to use someone else's computer to make my account...

SO shared computers mean no voting if some other random person has logged on and voted? it's not my fault my family only has 1 computer in the house...

It's to prevent troll votes. So if you had a friend over vote on a guide, yeah, you won't be able to vote on that guide anymore.

I've talked with the admins on this and it won't be changing anytime soon.

But honestly, it is more beneficial than bad.

How would you like one person being able to downvote you 10+ times in a few minutes just sitting their *** on the same computer?

At least if they wanna troll you hard they gotta use MULTIPLE computers, which makes it a little less easy to do ;)

Thanks to TRUeLM, Plastictree, Scrax, Xiaowiriamu, foggy12, JahGFX, jhoijhoi, msrobinson, JEFFY40HANDS, Nyoike, MissMaw, and me :) for the sigs!

I get it, I just think it could be managed a little differently, it should be clear based on how an account has been used whether it's a troll account or not...like pinkcuffs said, it's not really your fault if you share a computer with someone who also uses Mobafire.

It doesn't matter what computer/IP you REGISTERED from. If you EVER log in to your account from the same IP as someone else, at any point, your accounts are permanently "connected".

If you are genuinely not doing anything nefarious though, this is not a problem, because we do NOT prevent you from voting on the same guides as that connected account, as long as it is from different IPs. We only prevent you from voting from the SAME IP. If you try to vote, on your own account, from his computer (IP), you will not be able to because he already did. If you go home and try again, it will let you.

If we blocked things to that extent, it would be a problem for WAY too many people that go to lan parties, events, friends houses, families, net cafes, schools, people that legitimately use proxies because they have no choice, etc etc... There are just too many legitimate situations where it happens.

That being said, we do monitor situations where multiple votes come from accounts that are connected by IPs in this way. Like I said though, if you're not doing anything bad, you have nothing to worry about :)

As was said above, these measures are necessary to prevent people from sitting at home casting a hundred votes from dummy accounts. If you have a suggestion on how to improve this system, I'd love to hear it. The fact is, no matter what automated system we put in place to combat such activities, SOME people are going to be inconvenienced. The current setup limits the amount of inconvenience to be really not a big deal at all, and also prevents the majority of abuse that happened before this system was in place.

Hope that clarifies :)

In relation to the above, how would this affect a computer on a college campus?
