This is not the voice of a stubborn elitist. It is the voice of a realist.

I feel like saying something... Not sure how to phrase it though because no matter what I say, I think it will come off mean. Here I go anyway.
Look, after a certain amount of time, there just comes a point when you stop caring about what's "standard" and what's "useful". You just start thinking about what's fun. If you don't do these fun builds a lot, and you don't play competitively, you start losing interest in the game. You start losing interest, you stop playing altogether and start wondering if you should go back. You should build "stupid" builds. It makes the game more fun and keeps it interesting.

Thank you to jhoijhoi for the sig, and all the dividers in the guide.

Weird, but I agree with him. Edit: At least in ranked matches. In normals I don't really care what people do because that is just for fun and trying out new characters. (You still try to win, but not as big a deal)

It depends on the player's personal goals. Are you playing to win? Tryhard? Have fun? etc.

@Lugignaf: Well, obviously. :P

Building for fun is great if you don't care about the outcome. I had a hilarious 5-yordle game the other day with Nate, Spencer, and friends.

Rain Man is at the ELO where the fun of the game comes from the pure level of skill being exhibited, and in that environment, there is little room for error. Rain Man's post is likely addressed to people who try to make fundamentally flawed builds viable without realizing the practicality of the game.

That's why HotshotGG wins more than Grasshyren, for example. Guess who enjoys the game more, though. :P

I've played with Grassy. It's a blast.
I do agree with you that, after a certain ELO, you do pretty much have to stop using stupid builds. Also, I'm not sure if it's fun if you are just showing off your skills. I find that a little tedious and boring. My fun comes from the "trolling" that I do when I make ridiculous builds and make them work. DPS Nasus was my favorite build and that one was really 50/50.
EDIT: 5 man smite team works so well. Level 9-10 baron FTW.

I often plays with friends, and while we try to have laughs we also try to win. So we try to get the best of both worlds.

Yeah we like to win who doesn't, but if we're going down I'm going down with a laugh or two! Also I think you play better the more fun you have.

I loved The Rain Man's post about this issue because its true.

Yesterday I was in the 1240 elo range, my team was up like 43-23 the game was in the bag so we thought, but then as the game progressed into the " get baron or lose phase " we realized that 4 of us had been doing all the work and one was just on the sideless playing tag along. It was Alistar who went FULL support ( he did get FoN as his last item ). We had one true tank who was Jarvan and I was tanky dps playing Morde but we realized after we lost the first team fight to take control over baron that the game was lost. Not due to bad play, Alistars build end game was terrible he was actually focused down by the opposing team ASAP and pushed us into a 4v5 back to back teamfights which led to us losing.

These are the sub Saturday matches.
Yes he records them. Yes they are out on the web.
All the old matches are stored here I think.
