I'm not playing her as an AP champion in the sense you think I am. I am building AP to boost my healing, which is the way I support my team.
I build GP/5 items and have Avarice quints so I can give farm to my laning partner and still get items. I've also included most of the regular support items in the situational items section for a reason. I think I will replace the Zhonya's Hourglass with a different item because it should be some other surivibility item that costs less.

If I was the only person playing her that way, I would agree with you.
A more accurate statement would be that it's not really viable in high elo play. It's perfectly viable in normals or even reasonably viable in low elo/elo hell, but in high elo you should be playing straight support Soraka.
Seeing as I don't play straight support Soraka, I wasn't willing to write a guide about it.
