That's just a different way of showing skillshot range. He didn't have the "line missile display" option turned on. It's on by default now I think.

The most fundamental thing about Ezreal is that he is a pure skill shot champion.
They removed it because LoL was going through the heal-and-poke meta. This dominated over all other strategies.
One Rioter stated that if Ezreal were released today, he'd probably be fine. But, they have no plans to give him back his heal. They do want to make Essence Flux better though.
