yeah. i can't wait to see what this new 6th mob is (as we've known about the other 5.)
also, the current plan for endermen is to make them rarer, nerf their ability to move blocks (maybe even remove it completely) but make them a tougher combat opponent. currently they have 20 hearts of health (twice the players). they will also be better at teleporting to you (finally being able to teleport up), along with teleporting away from taking damage. (which means they would teleport to shade when the sun comes up and teleport away from water.)
also i'll be updating the first post when new version info comes out. hopefully the hidden mob in this version or the mob in the next will finally be dragons.

just posting what i find on minecraftwiki. all i can tell is that they are passive things, but potions are going to do all i can think of.
what i can tell you about potions is that there are 19 potion effects in the game, of which 5 already exist in the game as non potions.
the 5 that already exist are
potion.movespeed which is sprinting
potion.moveslowdown which decreases movespeed, used when charging a bow.
potion.regeneration which is given with golden apples. (golden apples give you super regeneration along with hunger, even if you aren't at full hunger.)
potion.hunger which makes you hungry faster (chance to happen when eat raw/rotten meat.)
potion.poison (duh.)
the other ones are
potion.digspeed which breaks blocks faster
potion.digslowdown which breaks blocks slower
potion.damageboost undefined

This is because the only mod I use is SinglePlayerCommands.
I have superheat renamed as "transmute" and "freecam" renamed as "cv" :D
That's all I use though, except for the occasional "killall squid" - Hate those things...
I recently two doors in my base that have the switches super-well hidden. ^_^
It's super hard to find if you were a visitor playing legit - You wouldn't even know the doors were there. :P
I've also collected 5 endermen pearls - I'm living in a fairly hostile area...

final release date for minecraft: set on the 18th of november. same date as mine con. there will continue to be updates to the game after full release. but i expect notch to no longer work on minecraft after release (hes already stated hes taking a vacation afterwards) and have him work on scrolls or something.
