Avatars are not hard to make, can be sold just for people wanting to have something to collect on. :o

Just text and pictures don't cost so much money. :D

So they could pull a Valve and actually have their customers like them as a company? Riot doesn't really have much customer loyalty past "oh well I already bought 5 skins, why would I want to switch mobas if I don't get that money back", and if they plan on actually sticking around as a dev/pub house they're going to need to start creating some brand loyalty. Things like this would be great ways to do it.

It would, but they won't do it. That's like EA saying it'll give it's developing studios artistic freedom.
