Because locking threads is quite hard now, because I don't really know the names of the moderators on this site, and even if I did, new forumers wouldn't. So what I suggest is a thread where we can request locks on your thread if you're done with it, if it gets out of hand or if you're re-making the thread.

Does this sound like a good idea? It shouldn't be so hard to do either :)

Thread locked.

Hmmm... I guess it could be a good idea, though I normally don't need such assistance from a mod...

1) Make a post clearly requesting a lock for that certain topic.
2) No response? Send a PM to one of the Mods.
3) Still no response? Use the report button and explain the situation.

I really doubt if we need an additional topic for this also... I understand where the idea comes from, but I don't think if this is a good idea.

That's exactly it, who are the mods? Who is available when I need them?

That's the reason I want it, it's as simple as a sticky thread on top of the support forum, and then the mods can go check there from time to time if someone requested a lock.

They add the link, and the mod locks the thread. It should only be allowed to ask for your own thread to be locked though.

Still working on that but there you go.

However, you should not PM the mods directly, nor should you post on the forums, when requesting moderator action. You should use the report system, it is by far the best way to bring things to moderator attention. All the mods and admins get a notification and it builds up a history of information about individual users and content.

If there's something lacking in the report system that leads you to want to send PMs or post on the forums, then we should improve the report system :)

Well, seems like I learn every day :D

But it is okay to make a post in the topic you want to be closed, right?

In the thread itself you mean? I guess so but, there's not really anything you can do that will be more effective than using the report system. It's the most effective means to get in touch with the mods, anything else you do won't make it happen any faster. If you mean actually making a new thread... Like in the Support forum... Please don't :) Reporting is still better and the Support forum will get gummed up with unnecessary threads.

Aye sir, use report system it is then :)

This thread can be locked :)

By the way, should I use the "out of date / missing data" alternative? :)

Well, when you land on the report page, only the last item will actually allow you to submit a report. The rest were put there to avoid the mods getting spammed with reports that shouldn't have been submitted in the first place. So yeah just click the last item to get the report form to appear and then fill it out :) All reports go into the same place.
