At midnight the system always does a database backup. I am currently finishing the backup before I begin maintenance.
@jhoijhoi, nope :) I take all kinds of precautions and care when building and preparing to launch features to make the launch as seamless and as close to no disruption as possible. I go to great lengths.
This maintenance however, is forced on us by our host unfortunately and I have almost no control over the time it will take. We will be on new hardware but, I don't foresee it improving performance at all, I think it's mainly just future-proofing on their end.

Alright well, we're back. This was a disaster! The projections I was given for this maintenance were way off, and after a few hours of waiting I gave up and started building a new database server from scratch. I finished building the server, uploaded a backup database I grabbed before this started (glad I did!!!), did some tests and flipped the switch. We're back up, and guess what. The old database server is still not done, no ETA. Stupid.
Let me know if you have any issues, stressed out at 4am is not prime time to build a server, so things may need some massaging.

Just an update on this. I have finished migrating all of our servers now, so we are running entirely on the new servers.
The last step is to migrate our load balancer. This requires changing the IP address for mobafire.com. I will be leaving the old load balancer up for the next 24 hours just to be sure everyone is over. This means that the change should be totally transparent to you, you shouldn't notice anything change.
If you do have any troubles loading the site in the next 8 hours or so, this is probably why, and it will just take a little time for your DNS to update and then it will work again.

Yeah been a crazy busy few days, and totally unexpected :P In the end though I think this is good, gave me a chance to do some upgrades and adjustments that I've wanted to do for some time. Looking forward to flushing all the old servers and being entirely on the new ones :) Almost there.
