Ofc you needed an optimal build but only if we talk about "Hell" difficulty

you could build unoptimally in normal.

but that simply counts as an obstacle you had to master with knowledge/skill.

there is no skill involved. spam potions and cookie cutter build.

And why Hell was for "pros" only everyone could easily experience "Normal" (Skill how the **** you like) and "Nightmare" (More serious but still negotiable).

because skilling however you wanted in normal would **** you over in hell because you didnt cookie cutter build. i really enjoyed having 3 paladins that spammed blessed hammer and had 1 aura.

And not to mention that with the implementation of synergies something like a melee-Sorc could easily handle Nightmare and also Hell depending on your drop luck.

It's all about the equipment, that's how D2 worked. (For example: the Melee-Werbear-Sorc rules)

not at all. a 'melee' sorc or a throwing barb was a terrible idea because it never scaled. if you're autoattacking past normal, somethings wrong.

I mean, excluding "Hell" their's so ****ing much you could play for fun: Like the throw-Baba or my personal favourite, the shuriken-***a (Latter easily eradicated "Hell" for me).

when i can't play endgame because of my character building decisions early game, thats not fun. i don't care how cool a throwing barb is, he is getting his *** handed to him end game, no way around it.

don't get me wrong, i played diablo 2 for years and still loved it. but all the changes they have made for diablo 3 are for the better.

They might have nerfed or buffed hell at some point.

I had an Enchant sorc who used pretty much exclusively Enchant, Magic Shield and Static Field, and I could solo hell Diablo and Baal.

Edit: This was single player, and I had absolutely ******ed gear, EBOTD Phase Blade, and a bunch of AtS stuff.
Tri lane for life.

I only played with ppl or solo in /players8 mode. (So the main time I spent on D2 was after the patch that included this option)

Some builds I mentioned aren't really meant for for Hell, but than you can easily start a new char (later, around the last patch you could also reskill once every difficulty level) ofc this could be frustrating, but this happens if you don't have the knowledge, that's called learning.
Besides you played through the game 2 times already, it's not like you gonna miss sth. great with your first char.

And to be precise:
Your nagging about this stuff right now results in the same casualization you nag about in your other threads...

theres a difference between changing game mechanics because the previous ones were broken vs changing a games mechanics because you want a different fan base/audience.

while im not going to claim that this does end up being more casual than diablo 2, its perfectly reasonable in this context.

This isn't to say that the game will be less challenging. In fact I expect it to have a similar level of difficulty when you play it on the more difficult settings. Blizzard is simply offering some QoL changes so that not EVERY single person who gets Diablo 3 HAS to treat it as a second job..

IMO should be a great deal of fun...However I might not be getting any new online games for awhile :/ Gots nooo moneh

Exactly my thoughts, the old mechanics were just broken... the customization was an ilusion. You had like what? 1 "good" build which was the cookie-cutter and the rest was just trash... How'd that improve the game or help in "customization"?

I really enjoyed the feel of the beta, played it for a few hours and ended up doing overachiever.
As someone said earlier, Witch Doctor really needs to be checked, it was my least favourite to play...

Class preference order:
Demon Hunter > Wizard > Monk > Barbarian > Witch Doctor

And I must say that I had higher expectations for barbarian...
76. GLHF is code for "We are going to rape you". Not returning the favor is giving consent.

its only to level 13/60, you're not even 1/4th through character levels.

EBOTD Phase Blade,

Really should have used Grief, but EBOTD had the slightly higher marks for AS which is probably why you chose it.

Grief would have been better though ;p

Pretty much the ONLY scenario where Grief wasn't better than EBOTD was for Werewolves in PVP, simply because shields had FAR too long of a cooldown for hit recovery, and you're basically going to be locked in the animation till you die even win astronomical levels of hit recovery. They also had such mind numbing attack speeds that even with the heaviest weapons like a Thunder Maul or an Ogre maul, that they could still get their one hit off (Sometimes two or three) before any other class in the game could hope to land an attack or a spell.

Werewolves could use EBOTD simply because they couldn't use shields, and EBOTD provided so much damage in 2 handers that it was pretty good on them.

Every other class should pretty much have a shield in D2, no questions asked :P (Speaking PVP here.)
