Hello everybody, my name is Rj and i have come to the forums to ask a favor from the LoL community. Before we get into the meat of this i would like to give you some background information on my situation and why i need your help. Basically, my school blocks LoL. Now i know your first thought is probably "They block it for a reason kid!" or "When do you have the time to play LoL at school". Well my retort is this, my schools is a boarding school, so i find plenty of time to play LoL because i live at school. And yes, i am still in high-school.

Now the reason i want to unblock LoL is because i want to put a team together from the LoL players at my school. Now you will probably say "Well why not go ask IT to unblock it" well i also have done that. After they analyzed LoL (i guess it takes a whole week to see what ports LoL needs, #worstITguysever) they came up with the conclusion that unblocking the LoL ports would bring the school to much at risk from malicious attacks... When i heard that the only think i could think was "Dafuq did i just hear?". I couldn't stop thinking how hundreds of colleges who would be much more juicy to hack into then a little high-school have unrestricted access to their internet/ allow LoL without being hacked every single day of the year.

Ok i could kind of understand their reasoning (but not really) but then the other reason they would not allow it really got to me... They said they would not unblock LoL because i play to many videogames... HOW CAN I PLAY GAMES WHEN THEY ARE ALL BLOCKED! every single online game, is blocked... So internet, i am coming to you to help i already put together a small report on the good effects the League has had on my life here:

Proposal for unblocking “League of Legends” for club named: SPS Legends

When created, SPS Legends will be a club that will focus on playing and discussing the Massive Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game, League of Legends (LoL) created and published by RIOT games.

League of Legends is a game which places 10 players into 1/3 different maps to compete against each other on the “ Fields of Justice”. These 10 players are then split into 2 teams of five and both teams occupy one side of a diamond shaped playing field with the middle being a neutral area. The point of the game is to takeover and occupy your enemies side of the map. The game's leading point is the fact that to win, heavy teamwork is required. The game centers around the fact that the players have 98 different types of characters to chose from. You pick these characters before the game launches which allows for discussion between your teammates about:
1.) the synergy of the characters on your team
2.) the synergy of the enemies characters on your enemies team and
3.) how your characters match up against theirs.
There are no characters or special items which are distinctly better then the others which forces the people on the same team to build a strong lineup of characters through communication before the game even starts.

Communication is the main factor of league of legends. What I learned the most from my time playing League of Legend is how to actively communicate with both people I know and random people I fine online to achieve a common goal. This has reflected into my everyday life, where I might run into a situation with my friends and my natural instinct now is to calm everybody down and think the situation through with brainstorms from my “team”. LoL also taught me about becoming an effective leader. Where some of the people I have played with will immediately start yelling at their own teammates if they make a mistake, doing more research into LoL helped me to come to simple a conclusion that yelling at your own teammates does not help you win and once you have accepted your defeat, you have no chance of coming back.

“If you played plenty of good and bad games, I guess one of the core life lessons LoL can teach you is that raging and yelling at others does not solve problems.” 03-14-2011 - Techno Ivan, Senior League Member.

Because I understand from playing LoL that your mindset is almost just as important as your skills in your field of choice, I always try my best to take leadership positions in whatever I can both in the game and in real life.

RIOT games also offers tournaments for the best ranked teams across the world. These tournaments offer up to $25,000 down to $250 for the grand prize winners. Some of these tournaments are live tournaments, while others are online. The point is that some people make their entire living of this game, so even though it is a video game and is meant to be done in our free time it has real applications for us to use in the long run if pursued as a career.

Lastly, a Pro League of Legends Player named Hahano put together an article explaining more ways LoL can be used in everyday life. Whether it has to do with professionalism in the workplace or just genuine kindness he discuss all the advantages of having LoL as an available outlet:

“One of the easiest lessons to learn from League of Legends is the importance of teamwork and reliance on your team. This is seen in the professional workplace, especially multi-disciplinary fields, and is a very important concept. Working as a team between people you don’t know is critical to advancing yourself in life and in your career, and those same concepts are seen on the fields of justice...” - Hahano, Pro League of Legends Player (http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/blog/hahano/life-leveling-teamwork)

Im kind of stuck at where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated. I'm hoping to fight back and fight back with some real backbone. Thanks.

Wow, you've really got something together there :)

I think it'd help if you got a large portion of the gaming community at your high school to sign a petition like for this. If a large enough number of students would like LoL unblocked due to the idea behind it, you may have a chance.

However, just saying, during my practical as a teacher last year (am studying to be a teacher atm), I had to use a guest account for the computers. I used Hotmail and MobaFire during my lunch break on my first day, and on the next day it was blocked by the servers. I asked my supervisors why, and then talked to the IT people. Apparently they don't block things, the Education Board does (in Australia anyway).

Same thing when I tried accessing "DeviantArt" from my own highschool. When I asked for it to be allowed access, they only heard the word "deviant" and said no.

It's unlikely that LoL will be unblocked from your school, but you can still try.

The legendary Jai right here in my very own forum post :3 hehe. Before i go on, I have to give you props for how much your guides have taught me about LoL.props.props.props.

Thank you for your opinion on this though. Even if i dont succeeded in getting it unblocked, at least i can say i tried. I will definitely try that petition idea, im sure it would help.

haha ^^ Welcome to the forums, you should post more often, we're a friendly buch :3

If you're going to write a letter, try and write it like an essay. Introduction, 3 main points, conclusion.

1st Paragraph: Introduce League of Legends. State the 3 main reasons why the game should be unblocked.
2nd Paragraph: 1st reason + link to 2nd reason
3rd Paragraph: 2nd reason + link to 3rd reason
4th Paragraph: 3rd reason
5th Paragraph: Conclusion. Restate the 3 main reasons.

I'd definitely say "communication skills/teamwork" should be one of the reasons. I reckon if you could make one of the reasons as "gaming improves cognitive development" or something, they'd be impressed. Don't forget to back up your letter with references :)

^^ Yes indeed... People in authority aren't usually a creative bunch, and they like reading the same thing over and over. You gotta stick to the format that they learned in college, and refuse to deviate from since then, or else they won't take the time of day to read through it and take it seriously.

I'm going to sound rude by saying this, despite my attempts not to be, but that is a ******** reason to have a video game unblocked on your schools network.

Lets face it kid, you're not playing LoL to look for some deep, philosophical way to apply its "lessons" to your everyday life, nor are you honest to God going to benefit from its communications aspect. That is, unless you call "YOU DIDN'T ****ING FOCUS THEIR DPS YOU ******* STOP FOCUSING THE MAINTANK" healthy communication, your proposal can be used by pretty much any vanity request brought up by any student in your school. When I think of League of Legends, it's just another video game. If I ever got anything out of a video game that has affected my every day life, it's that I have a certificate on my wall that I printed from my gameboy printer saying I caught all of the original 151 pokemon. Honestly, it just sounds like a poor excuse for you to play video games in your school.
