I personally don't believe that the freshness filter greatly increases the quality of displayed guides to any extreme extent. Most patches don't change much of anything that concerns quite a few champions, items, jungle routs, etc.
There is a difference between a good guide and an up-to-date guide.
Just my opinion. :P

+1 for that suggestion, I dislike seeing non-updated guides with top ratings...

great suggestion. i agree completely.
Thank you jhoijhoi, Keondre, LaCorpse, The_Nameless_Bard, Arcana3, Apfeljack, Hogopogo, eddie199, Xiaowiriamu, and JEFFY40HANDS for the spectacular sigs!

I don't even think the freshness filter works, to be honest (or at least it hasn't turned over). This is the only example I can find: check Dewo's activity history. At the top should be a republish of his WW guide in January. And yet his WW guide is Fresh and not Stale as it should be after 6 months.
The freshness filter patch list was behind, so you may have seen guides showing as fresh that were not. I have updated it now and the caches will be clearing gradually, so guides will be updating with the correct freshness levels. That may have been confusing the issue and making it seem less effective than it should be.
At the moment this can only be updated directly in the database, I'll see about putting up a tool so you guys can help us keep it up to date.
I don't really want to amp it up. It's enough that new guides know they will have a chance at the top as authors often eventually stop maintaining their work. Using DEWO as an example jhoijhoi, after updating the patches I no longer see his WW guide in the listings, it's gone.

Ah, good job Matt (I didn't realise the freshness filter wasn't updating, otherwise I would have brought it up earlier)! Will be interesting to see if the current lists for guides are more up to date now! :)

I propose it changes to 1 patch. That means an update every second week. Whether that's fixing a spelling mistake, adding a screenshot, or just refreshing the page - I think that it should be run by 1 patch lots.
Matt has said refreshing the guide just to refresh and never updating it is WEAK. This sort of forced updating would mean the outdated guide authors will ACTIVELY be refreshing and perhaps they will take the time to edit the guide.
Just my opinion.
