I read a post on reddit yesterday with a link to a blog. I can't remember which but it covered how important mastering the mechanics of the game was. Like the reason a high elo player can stomp noobs on smurfs, not because they know tactics better but because they have mastered the mechanical part of the game. E.g. they land all skills, knows the champions they play and those they are up against. Anything on this?
And another thing, roles in teamfights?

lol completely forgot :p
Well as you saw yesterday, your role in teamfights is really individual to the character you play.
As you saw yesterday i was not familiar with jax(especially not in the jungle) and derped in most of the teamfights taking waay too much focus since i normally play on more defensive tanky oriented champions. Also Maokai was a dumbass that couldn't initiate at all....
Next game i took maokai, the role of an initiator and did much much better taking all the focus.
^i did practically the same thing, just in one game it was right and in another one it was completely wrong^

The advantages of knowing how the champion you are playing against works cannot be overstated.
I want to just write that sentence out about 10 times for emphasis, because I shed a tear everytime I hear a teammate say "WTF since when does XXXX character STUN???? OP!!"
or
"who iz this yorick? wahy he is so hard to kill?"
If you play one lane or role in particular, RESEARCH IT and know the enemies you are most likely to run into.
If you play every role, RESEARCH MORE.

You can't peddle papooses with a dancing monkey.
I saw yesterday Pölse. Wasn't at my best, but we had more than decent synergy when it worked.
My kata op xD

you still need to work on your lane and roaming, even if your teamfight pressence is great
