Support Sona gets tanky and doesn't need expensive AP items. Then again, if you want damage ... this isn't the build :3
Mercury's Treads
Shurelya's Battlesong
Randuin's Omen
Aegis of the Legion
Abyssal Mask
(whatever you want, though probably wards)

I've found keeping the AP high, makes the Heal really effective, keeping her support heavy, not to mention the bonus to her damage.
I Tried the more tanky build you suggested, but I found it's drop in healing really made me focus too much on keeping everyone else alive, Would you suggest I changed runes to cater for the item build?
I'll give it another shot if so, We won with ease, But she was taking (What seemed like) more damage, and not doing enough with her abilities.
Still eager to try it again though, A learning curb is always welcome.

Welcome to Summoner's Rift!

What runes are you using? I'd recommend something like this:
Greater Mark of Armor (or
Greater Mark of Magic Penetration)
Greater Seal of Armor
Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist
Greater Quintessence of Gold (or
Greater Quintessence of Ability Power)
Hmm, yeah, the healing is going to be less. I dunno, just try it a couple of times and if you don't like it, don't use it. This one is also not really meant to do damage, just to support with your auras, heals, and CC.

Interesting, but I think
Mercury's Treads should be there as a standard. Also, I hope you find
Locket of the Iron Solari more usefull than I do, because I'd build
Randuin's Omen.
Plenty of HP and no Mres might not let me take it as serious tanking, but you probably aren't focused on, so no big problem there, i'm guessing

I think, for starters, you should take

hi embracing. yes i play ff14 now.
Take flash, lose the boots of swiftness and get Philo's and HoG for tank Sona.
After that you can take what ever you are missing, armor, MR, or rylais for health and slow.
I always recommend holding on to your G/10 items for as long as possible, because they pay for the wards that you will always need.

Basically, I'm happy with my gameplay as Sona, Over time I've found I've switched all my heavy AP items and started focusing on being a tank Sona instead. It's been working out for me naturally. I'm after some people to just critique my items and give me some counter suggestions and reasonings why.
Item List:
Rylai's
Runes and Masteries are Utility, Aiming mainly on GP10. I'm not so much looking for suggestions on them, I'm happy with my play style and Runes/Masteries.
If you can see any items you would recommend changing, Please say so, It would be much appreciated.
