I think he misunderstands what people mean when they say it "runs hot" though. High overclocking with the 3770K runs into severe heat problems and it simply can't overclock as well as the 2700K.
With proper cooling it should be possible to reach 5GHz with the 2700K while the 3770K more often than not stops below ~4.8GHz.
I don't know the price differences, but if you need a new CPU the 3770K has some obvious advantages that would be preferable for most people. Only get the 2700K if you're gonna be overclocking the **** out of your CPU.

I doubt there's a single game on the market that will lag because of your CPU. Strong GPUs are waaaay more important than CPUs in gaming.
Learn how to overclock if you ever feel like squeezing a little extra out of your CPU (4.2GHz should be easy, and 4.5 shouldn't be too hard either).

If you already have the 2700k there is no reason to upgrade, but if you are deciding between the two go for the 3770k just because it is more updated technology. You won't be able to overclock it as much as the sandy bridge (only a small difference), but that really isn't very noticeable and doesn't compare to the upgrades the ivy bridge model brings.

I don't have a 2700K. I have a 960.
And I'm getting a new mainboard, which means new socket, so I'll be needing a new CPU as well. Not to mention my GPU (GTX 580 Lightning) is breaking down (remember the glass table shrapnel?), so I'll have to replace that as well. Won't bother to do much overclocking on my CPU.
