Hmmm problems laning with Morde? I personally think laning is Morde's strength and if your playing your cards right you should win most trades. You should attempt to poke right before your opponent, insuring your passive soaks their damage. Morde is a pusher and I honestly don't even worry when playing mid. Just push push push your enemy under tower and out farm them into oblivion.
I personally rush into an
Hextech Revolver +
Abyssal Mask.

@busdriver210, That's mostly right. Spam your abilities, keep your passive up, and harass shouldn't be a problem.Push him to death and out farm him and become a mid-late game monster. By the time you should seriously have to worry about jungle ganks in S3 (assuming you aren't being a total ra-tard and sitting at the enemy's turret while you have it pushed) you should have
Ionian Boots of Lucidity and at least the
Hextech Revolver, if not nearly the full
Will of the Ancients, so jungler comes in, enemy laner commits, it turns from a 1v2 to a 2v1 very quickly as long as you focus the right one. Just play it safe for awhile (till u hit 6) and keep the person farming at his turret. Mord is one of my favorite champs, and the only people I lose to on a fairly consistent basis is
Udyr,
Garen, and
Darius. Just be chill, keep your shield up, eat some of the harass, and laugh as they miss farm. Patience is the name of the game here.

he's really fun but can be easily countered.

If you're in lane with morde more than 60% of your time, you're doing it wrong. The thing is, with morde you don't wanna force engagements, in S3 you're one of the strongest(if not the strongest) farmer in the game. This is the way to net yourself an easy 200 cs by the 20th minute:
Start: Flask+5pots+ward. The reason we do this is because through level 1-3 the enemy laner will be a meanie and through level 3-12 we're gonna be taking a lot of damage from spamming our abilities.
LvL 1-3 you play very carefully, try not to miss cs and try not to push, if you have to miss 1/3 or half the cs for not being forced to spam potions, do so.
You just dinged 4, THE MADNESS BEGINS! you get that second point in E, the creep wave is already shivering as you proceed to smash them with e and q and then last hit the last casters with your auto-attacks.
It's time to get farmed up, niggah. You go to your jungle if your jungler isn't near the wraithcamp and get it. That's 1/3 of a wave of both exp and gold niggah. If you don't think the enemy jungler/mid is particularly scary this is where the ward comes into play. You place the ward in the wraith bush and now double madness is about to happen as you increase your farm by almost 2/3's if you're lucky since you'll be having 2 additional wraith camps at your disposal for farmings. You'll barely loose hp and even if you do, you have over 1k extra hp to regen from from potions so **** that ****.

I agree that you should be nabbing wraiths on your side when you can, but i think that going to enemy wraith whenever they spawn is a bad idea. The reason mord hasnt been seen alot in S2 is the fact that he has no escapes and is easy jungler fodder. In S3 the jungle pressure has lessened alot for laners, so Mord is going to become viable, if not broken. That being said, putting yourself into harm's way constantly with no escape mech by going into the enemy jungle is just asking for trouble.

Dunno why ppl say Morde is a good laner...
Played Morde a heck of a time while he was still broken (THAT was when he obliberated any lane) and after he got nerfed.
Atm if I face a Morde I outdo him with the most simple tactic:
Seperate yourself from your creep wave!
Either he gets some shield hitting the wave or he deals some dmg to you, but no matter what he does if you simply hit him afterwards he loses the trade while waiting for his CDs.
Morde could do better if there was a cheap item that could slow on range (Other than Cutalss) he could build first.

Morde has been complete garbage for ever. Nerfed and never brought back. Everyone who is saying that he has a strong laning phase is a crack smoker. No cc, no sustain, no mobility, extremely short range, melee, low damage, need I say more?
Mord doesn't have a "great" lanephase, he just excels at denying the enemy laner their farm and cash. By lvl 7 he clears entire creep waves in a matter of a couple of seconds and gets every last creep out of it, so your entire wive goes and gets demolished by the enemy turret. Are you going to get kills in lane? Probably not, unless you hit 6 and the half-health jungler comes to say hi, you kill him, steal his soul, then kill the enemy laner with it. That doesn't mean he is garbage, it just means he has a niche role, like ALOT of champs.
