Both are actually magic damage.
If you have a lot of single target spells, (I.E.
Syndra's ult) then Muramana is vastly better.
If you actually space your spells out and aren't spamming them like a crazy person so you can actually use the LB procs, it's a tad better.
But, yea. They're both magic damage. Turn on the floating numbers, and remove the spellblade mastery, and you'll see 2 numbers pop off a target. One red, for the physical, and one purple for the magical. Of course, you have not not be using a champ that does magic damage with their basic attacks.

I'm pretty sure
Muramana wins on LeBlanc anyways, you're not really going to have time to autoattack between your spells, as you are pretty reliant on a quick burst for your kills. Just saying.
EDIT: Lich Bane does magic damage anyways right?

Yeah I got so excited about the new stuff I didnt notice the LB was changed. I have been off and on working on figuring out the function for muramana's active, but I wanted to make a spreadsheet so you could plug in the items or at least stats and it would do it for you. Wiki states Janna as having the highest possible mana pool in the game with 8468, is this still accurate?
Also from just doing "ideal" max ap w/LB vs max mana w/Mura, its clear to me that I should consider mura on some hybrid/ad casters.

Sometimes there's so much stupid in the world, I feel like I can't take it, and my head is just going to explode.

I just made up my new hybrid, tank leblanc and it actually worked really well.I won lane against jayce with double buff and 2/0 score at 5 min coz my team fed him and i still won lane and wrecked him with this build:
Muramana > Mercury threds > iceborn > Rod of ages > Banshee's veil > anthene unholy grail
PS: I've already played 3 games with that build, 2 mid, 1 top , 2 against jayce and 1 against heimer and i wrecked them each game with scores like: 9/1 , 8/1 and 26/8
I'm troll.
As Ryze you shouldn't consider these items at all.
Muramana deals physical damage while Ryze is a magical damage dealer.
Lich bane requires auto attacks, which is also not so good :P
Just get Seraphs embrace :P

But 1000 mana is never a bad thing on
Ryze. And
Muramana procs on both Q and W. If you already got
Seraph's Embrace and you know, you have time to stack
Manamune, I think it is more efficient than anything else for damage.

Even though it clearly says "bonus magic damage = to 50 +75% ap" its physical damage not magic.
which makes me question this part "consume 3% of your current mana to deal 6% of your current mana as magic damage" is it really magic or is it physical again?
I'm going to math it out assuming they both deal physical damage but if someone can confirm the dmg type on muramana I'll do that scenario as well.
