Great explanation, and a lot more in depth than most of the newer guide out there. But, the first problem I saw was getting full AP runes. Xerath is a very mana hungry champion and a squishy, so runes should include MR and mana. For masteries, Butcher is a common mastery for AP casters, as it allows ease of farm. Rylai's is less effective early and is too expensive. Rabadon's would be a more viable option.

Overall, a well done guide. I could see this rising to the top with a little more editing and promotion.

+1 for a great build.

Thanks for the feedback!

I expanded my guide with a FAQ section. Many complained about not rushing Rabadon's Deathcap so I put there an explanation why I think that it's not the best choice.

Quoted:
Especially on Xerath, with full AP runes, is going to scream 'mana problems'.

If you do have mana problems, buy Crystalline Flask and/or Chalice of Harmony or change your runes (like I wrote in my guide).

Quoted:
You may grab it as 4. or 5. item after purchasing rylai's but never before.

My build recommends buying Haunting Guise and then Rylai's Crystal Scepter. Afterwards you should buy Liandry's Torment because you only have to spend 1415 for 45 ap and a great DoT, which helps you harass/poke with Arcanopulse.

Quoted:
[Your guide] Looks exactly like mine, just a few differences.

While we do have a similar finished build, the build order is different. I'd also like to note that we recommend different runes and skill order.

Special thanks to FalseoGod who helped me a lot improving my guide.

Hello,

I just feel that I need to ask, do you really buy Rabadon's Deathcap as third real item (besides boots)?
What would you say if I claimed that Xerath AP ratios are so high that he is one of those champions that should rush Rabadon's Deathcap?
Delaying the deathcap that long would end up making you weak thought out mid game, and Xeraths range allows him to avoid items with hp, since he should NEVER in close range. But if you feel that you are getting raped be my guest and buy some Giant's Belt items. But you won't be a big threat for anyone then.

But hey thats just my thought, make you're own decisons.

Not sure how viable rushing Liandry + Rylai is on Xerath, this combo, while having great synergy, is actually viable on a lot fewer champions than people think. Especially on Xerath, with full AP runes, is going to scream 'mana problems'.

Ok, quick notes:

- MR runes are nearly always core, your range in lane won't be fully abused pre-challice or you'll run oom fast and there are still good champs that can deal with you. Probably scalling MR Runes, since the best ones need their level 6 to messy you up completely (ahri, fizz, akali, leblanc);
- Xerath is a great jungle fighter, provided there are other people there or runes. The jungle allows him to position without being easy to target;
- Sorcery isn't that good and Butcher allows any ap champ to farm with a bit more ease;
- Leveling E in lane a bit is usually great versus any mobile or short ranged mage since it's guaranteed harass, you don't mention this. In fact, it's a much better spell in terms of damage, while Q is better for teamfighting or ganking double lanes, so if you're staying in lane or you're not versus a hard pusher (which requires you to fast repush with Q) maxing E can be much more beneficial;
- Not taking Ignite doesn't make you play passively, most times Xerath won't use Ignite out of lane due to his range;
- Your "tips and tricks" anchor at the start of the Abilities section is broken, probably because it's misspelled;
- Doran's Ring is not a good start, Xerath has no natural sustain. It works on Morgana or Ahri because they have spellvamp, but on Xerath, unless you're against a 0 range champ, it's gonna give them free harass time. Worse, since Crystalline Flask start is getting so popular, they get the chance to outlane you;
- Crystalline is the best start. Boots are overrated nowadays. With crystalline, you can get a challice on your first recall easily and keep a great amount of sustain with you;
- "Tips" only has one "p". Actually, you should spellcheck the guide for typos, I see some here and there;
- You could mention the locus of power ms boost tip for escaping ganks, specially if flash is down (locus, E+Q, locus out);

Overall a good guide with well-presented information, I wish you good luck with it!

Good work!

Looks exactly like mine, just a few differences.

The item section is pretty messed up at the moment due to no use of columns. The icons make the text nearly unreadable :( Either leave them or divide it with columns into icons + space + text.

I don't agree with getting AP/lvl yellows. Since you often go vs another burst lane it is worth having more defense or more mana for early poke.

Items are the same as mine but there is a reason why the order is diffrent: Early on magic pen, but after that always AP, since you will lack pure AP to work with your pen. Rylai's Crystal Scepter is extremly expensive for pretty low effect early. The deathcap is much more effective in that case. Also note that Liandry's Torment is a terrible item early because it sclaes with the HP of your enemies. You may grab it as 4. or 5. item after purchasing rylai's but never before. The damage is simply too low and doesn't help that early in the game.

Best regards,
