Don't bother comparing Vi and Riven, even with these latest nerfs, Riven is a legitimately viable champion and Vi simply is not. Even after the bug fixes Vi is incredibly underwhelming at all points of the game and in all her viable roles.
She's a subpar top lane and a fairly weak jungler. Her only real chance for viability is in jungle but literally provides nothing to a team. Her Q has pretty good damage, assuming you can ever land it, her W is nice baring that people are actually bad enough to let her get 3 consecutive auto attacks on you, and her E is a pathetic attempt to give her the slightest bit of range and wave clear. She's pretty much a champion that is totally reliant on her ultimate, and basically her ultimate is the only thing making her not totally worthless as a champion.
Why not play Warwick? There is a champion with a similar ult who is essentially the same thing as Vi, maybe a little more viable because his ult cooldown is much lower. In his current state, Warwick is pretty much only a champion because of his ultimate, the same is true for Vi
You must be seeing some underskilled Vi then because she plays a good tank when needed. And a super good damage output when build right or even like you said land the Q(Which isn't hard to land). As far as the W goes..That's a piece of cake to get cause people do just sit there and let you hit them 3 times..Atleast it has happen alot for me. But the E is what makes it all interesting cause it super strong early game and like I said before easy to farm CS. But I don't think Vi main role is only a jungler..She is super good but overlooked in this game for some reason I don't know why. Or it could be that she is always compared to Riven half the time.

No I see some good players try her and fail. Riven takes just as well as Vi and her damage output is in a totally different league
As far as her Q, it's a pretty easy skillshot to dodge all it takes is bots 2

it doesnt happen if you play against people above 1000 elo
the reason Vi is overlooked is because people want a champion that consistently perform well. Vi's Q relies on the enemy not dodging your skillshot and W relies on getting 3 consecutive auto attacks off; aside from her entire kit being underwhelming on top of it
Thanks for the Signature MissMaw!
Personal vendetta against Riven here, but I think Vi is really strong.
While a lot of what Mooninites is saying is in fact true, she does a ton of damage, and provides a lot of utility for her team, provided she can get to them of course.
While Moon is a little wrong in how her W works, it is unreliable. It's not just 3 autos, but 3 damaging skills or autos. Her pre-6 burst damage is fairly good, and fast. At level 3, a Q->AA->E can actually chunk people really well and, she also pushes really well mid/late game with a Q through the wave, and E to blast the rest of the wave.
While you can't build her like Riven, she fulfills a similar role of killing and disrupting with 2 good forms of AoE CC. While she can't initiate all the time, because she's either not tanky or the ult's not up, she does have good counter-initiates with Vault Breaker and it's small knockback.
So, my opinion: Pick Vi, jungle her, carry games too.
Your choice.

I'm also pretty sure that it's because a lot of people I've seen rush trinity on her, even when it gives a lot of useless stats for her. The entirety of the sheen is wasted because you're going to RQE someone really quickly. The minimal AP scaling doesn't help either.
Better stuff is like... good bruiser things. Or some good, straight AD, like Bloodthirster, and a Runic Bulwark for defensive stats with a Frozen Mallet to supplement.

The only time I really rush Trinity Force is when I really need to do some fast damage to bring the game back or when the other core items of my build is done.Only item I rush is The Brutalizer so I can get it into Black Cleaver. But this opinion of which is better between Riven/ Vi could and possibly go on for days cause people defend Riven super hard. While Vi barely had supporters from the start of the game.

Why would you ever get Trinity when you're trying to swing the game back in your favor?
It's a winning item and only helps further that lead.
Cleaver rushing when you need to deal damage? Good.
Triforce rush(as a first item) to deal damage? Probably not so much if you're not already winning trades.

I've seen Vi's carrying games, heck I had a Vi make me lose a ranked just because the hardness of how she got fed did more to her than the feed I got as Swain. But whenever I played her I felt underwhelming and useless, which means she probably requires some skill and a good early game exploitation.

Because every time I finish building The Black Cleaver and I'm losing I start building Trinity and 9/10 it helps me bring the game back. Then I throw in a Maw of Malmortius and I'm perfectly fine
