Exactly what i did.. Thought im the only one who plays Skarner on mid?! .. Which Server you play ?
I dont agree with your items. At all. You got no Armor, wich you need for close combat. You neglect CDR wich is vital on Skarner and you dont build Tenacity, wich will get you killed against any competent team. Be happy stomping low elo. don't expect to carry a game against potent enemies.
@Meiyjhe - Mind expanding more on that? xD Like, what would you recommend the item build be?
@SpRuCePuPpY16 - Well, there's a different playstyle between the build you mentioned and the build I created. With your build there's not as much AP, reducing the effectiveness of your Fracture's damage and heal. In lane, I usually poke from afar with my Fracture, which chunks most enemies for about a fourth to a third of their health. When I get them low enough, I run in, Impale them, then Fracture them again if its not on cooldown. This combo is usually enough to kill them if they're around half health. In team fights, I'm constantly poking with Fracture and then running away. If I see an opportunity, I run in, Impale a target, and displace the target into the center of my team. The damage from Impale is usually enough to deal around a third to half of their health depending on how far into the game you are and how tanky the target is. This extra boost in damage, which isn't in your build, changes the playstyle a bit as your build needs you to constantly be in the enemy team's faces to deal damage while my build is a hit and run sort of mage champion.
With your build, you get 72 AP max from Rageblade (all stacks), 65 AP from Gunblade, and 25 AP from Trinity Force. That's 162 AP + 26 AP from Runes + 24 AP from Masteries (at level 18) = 212 x 1.05 from the Archmage mastery = 222.6.
Your Fracture, which is your main nuke with this build, only deals 396 damage and heals 156 damage. Your Impale only deals 623 damage. Not factoring enemy magic resist in.
With my build (take the core items for example), you get ~70 AP from Seraph's (if it's fully charged), 120 AP from Rabadons + 25% AP increase. That's 70+120 = 190 + 26 AP from Runes + 24 AP from Masteries (at level 18) = 240 x 1.30 (Archmage and Rabadon's) = 312 AP. That's only with your core build. Once you get Rylais and Abyssal Scepter, thats an extra 150 AP x 1.3 = 507 AP. Your Fracture deals nearly 600 damage, heals for 240 damage, and your Impale deals 900 damage, not factoring Magic Resist in. You also gain health from Rylai's and Magic Resist from Abyssal Scepter, so it helps somewhat counteract the fact that you're not building a complete tank build.
Not trying to say that you're build is bad. In fact, it's actually a decent build to follow if you're doing well. However, I'm trying to argue for the effectiveness/differences of doing an all-AP build.
Regardless, thank you for taking your time to suggest an alternative build!
