pet champion:
either has alt+click controls and players derp with it or will have a fiddly AI in constant need of attention after each patch. also, laning would be a nightmare, either way, imho.
since abilities are fixed, i presume both included characters would have to benefit from the champion's abilities. otherwise the pet would potentialy be flat and not fun.
if pet scales with items = op (morde ults your carry, anyone? Now permanently)
if pet dies, champ is potentially useless, prob like a
Zyra that has no more plants (and silenced and whatnot)
said hawk sounds like an Hawkshot. even though being able to buy without going to fountain can be interesting, but only profitable from if you rarely die = not good for standard player.
