Also, most male lead characters look so generic and boring that ppl dont keep them in their heads. Besides there are more male animefans (if we ignore Yaoifans then for sure!) and usually heroines are longer in the head than generic male mains

It's like that's some kind of ideal dreamy spot according to Japanese people.
Or it's possibly just a tool for the storytelling; being able to look out through the window at things to make it more interesting and having someone behind and in front of them so that they can spring up discussion more easily.
