Hi Guys,

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask, or even if I can get it to make sense – But he we go…

I’m level 30 and unranked, but I’m looking to start playing ranked matches.
I generally play as Support with a little ADC/Jungle on the side.
I’m posting this as I’m a little nervous as I had an unranked friend play his placement matches and he won 7, lost 3 and ended up in Silver III.

From my experience so far, I would consider myself to be on the low end of silver kind of player.
I’m worried that if I solo queue for my placement matches that I may end up in bronze league – which I obviously want to avoid at all costs! I don’t care if it’s Silver V – I just don’t want bronze as I hear you can never get out of there..

But anyway, as I play support I was thinking that it might be a good idea to play with another Silver III ADC mate (has over 1500 wins), I figured if we are on skype we can control our lane and single handily carry our team regardless of what’s going on around us (I know it doesn’t quite work that way, but you know what I mean.)

Now I assume virtually every game we would be matched up with on average other silver ranked players, so winning/losing to these guys would leave me in better position to end up in a Silver league. As opposed to playing by myself and potentially winning/losing to bronze teams.

Now my theory could be completely wrong, as I’m honestly not sure how this all works in that sort of detail – But it makes sense in my mind.
So I figured I would come here and hear your throughs on what I should do and if I’m wrong advise a way I may be able to increase my chances of ending up in a silver league and avoided the dreaded bronze!

Thanks for reading and I appreciate any feedback you can provide.

Cheers,
Freakin Out

What should you do?

Don't support at low elo. That's literally asking to be placed into bronze lol.

If you're going to duo q with a silver 3 friend, make sure he's actually good first. I don't mean comparatively good, but GOOD good.

In low Elo I recommend just playing pubstomp champions and work your way up. Champions like Jax and Kat can singlehandedly carry games, especially when no one knows how to team fight.

tehasian is right on this one. In low-ish ELO the counters on lolcounter.com do not really matter as much as the skill with which you play a champion. The easiest way to climb the ELO tree is to get acquainted with a snowball AP mid ( Kassadin, Fizz, Ahri, kararina, etc)
Because some ranked people are as$holes, you might also want to familiarize yourself with some junglers, as they also have the ability to snowball out of control and carry a game. My suggestions would be to familiarize yourself with Hecarim, Vi, Jarvan IV, or Xin Zhao, as they are all really strong picks

If you have a siler tier friend, by all means you are allowed to duo queue. In fact, i recommend that you do! I always find that i can do better when i am talking to someone. Just know that it is really hard to carry a game from the bot lane
If I helped you out, be sure to throw me a +Rep!

Thanks for the advise, i do appreciate the feedback you guys provide.

I'll be sure to not select to be support during my ranked games and look to play a snow balling champ as you have both suggested so i can have my destiny in my own hands.

My mate is a GOOD good Silver III player, i generally see him lose games due to top/mid feeding. So i will be sure to play with him during my placement games to try and increase my chance at landing in Silver.

I just wasn't sure if 'technically' it would work out better or worse for me duo'ing with someone established in a silver league for my placement games.
I would assume if i could win at least half of the games, it should land me in a silver league - in theory..

Nope. Winning half your games drops you into Bronze 1. winning 6 puts you into silver 5, et cetera. at least im pretty sure. Anyway the advice is good, below gold a good Akali stomps **** and carries hardcore. If you are duoing ive always had the best luck running a solo lane and jungler.
Hey, if you liked any advice i gave, be sure to +rep me! Oh, and check out my Shaco and Maokail lorecraft in my Blog! I'm a starving artist in need of attention, so please feel free to read, respond, and critique me! Please? Anybody that leaves a comment (good or bad) will receive a +rep!

^Not true. Warlemming went 6/4 w/l and got slotted into Silver II. I'm not sure how they calculate it, but winning 6 =/= Silver V.

I've never understood this. Yeah, you're kinda team dependent, but I've basically only ever done solo queue support in ranked and I only spent a brief amount of time in bronze in S2. You can solo queue support at any elo if you're good at it. Period.

Yeah no. 21-8 Lulu support in ranked, 72.4% winrate with 1.5/3.3/13.0 average. She carried me to gold, along with Diana and Swain

That only says that you're an exception to the rule.

Most people that go into supporting ARE practically asking to be placed in Bronze. It's harder to carry from support than it is from every other position.

Although, if you're duoing, you might want to play a position that's hard to die from, like support and let your teammate carry (if they're good enough) whilst minimising the amount of feeding and such that you might do. But if you're confident in your play, then I wouldn't recommend support.
