The question that has plagued humanity since the dawn of time...

    Master Yi

More viable using AP or AD/AS? I've played games seeing him cut down champs like they're just another tree as an AD/AS carry and then there are those games with the AP Master Yi that basically one hits nearly any champ thats under 40% hp. I've tried both and still can't decide on which is better. I'm leaning towards AP Yi due to the surprise factor that alpha strike gives you when you burst them to critically low hp and also how meditate scales with AP, that being said AP/AS is great with his ulti, wuju style and it procs his passive much easier.

    What do you guys think?

AP Yi, as Alex Ich all showed us, is perfectly viable even in tournament play. You pretty much have to know how to play it and how to abuse his skills. He works against anything without cc in lane but his major strength is roaming. He functions a lot like Katarina and just like her, he requires practice.

Though even if I ever wanted to play AP Yi I wouldn't ever touch it in soloq. People already have issues playing with a Draven on their team.

Regarding AD Yi: Simply a weaker version of Tryndamere. He clears the jungle slower, he deals less damage, weaker escape, weaker ganks and a weaker laning phase. He only backdoors a little bit better. Also, he dies faster.

I agree with your assessment of AP Yi though.

AD Yi doesn't clear the jungle slower than Tryndamere. O.o
Alpha Strike and Double Strike with Wriggle's Lantern allow him to clear quite fast while Tryndamere is forced to either put points into Spinning Slash for AoE or Mocking Shout for gank CC. He also has much more mobility with his ultimate, especially if he gets resets in team fights. Tryndamere might beat him out in terms of raw damage when he's itemized, but Yi has stronger natural steroids and greater sticking power.

I don't think AD Yi is particularly viable or anything, but he has some advantages over Tryndamere in some respects. I'd much rather have an AD Yi jungle than a Tryndamere.

Also he backdoors much better than Trynd, not that that's a big plus. You can't crit towers, but you can Wuju Style + Highlander to kill them.

AP Yi because his taunt is op, and his early game is just bonkers.

Ad for jungle, AP for lane.

AP Yi is just so ridiculous, my team just got owned in ranked to basically just Master Yi, and we had fed Kha'Zix and Elise. The Meditate is also quite frankly overpowered as all hell. Just... Wow... AP is just too good, but if the Alpha Strike doesn't get the kill. But tehAsian captured it really well when he said Yi was high risk high reward.

AD Yi has a slightly stronger mid game and snowballs a lot harder than AP, and can backdoor to carry a team.

AP Yi has a better late game IF he can get the resets off. If he doesnt, he provides solid AoE, but not much else.

Either way, he's a high risk high reward champion.

AP Yi is pretty strong right now.

He wins a lot of lanes that can't CC him, and in the right hands is lethal in team fights.

AD Yi kinda has to hope the enemy doesn't focus him hard and that they let him just kinda auto attack them to death.

AP Yi definitely seems more viable to me.

AD Yi is the most unbalanced champion in the League (except maybe Darius). The damage HE CAN do is amazing, but the problem is, EVERY AD carry can do the same damage FROM AFAR. I kicked Yi's butt before he could even touch me with Ashe and Sivir. AP Yi is more viable, he does a ton of AP
Damage to 4 enemies in a fight. He can burst squishies extremely fast, and then heal himself for thousands of HP. AP Yi IS more viable, but ALL other AP carries can do the same. FROM AFAR. Or do more damage, like Katarina. Yi is the least viable champion.

When you actually look at it from a numbers standpoint AD yi can achieve higher damage through pure auto attacks than anyone else given that he has a +70 AD steroid (which becomes +105 after you kill someone) an 80% attack speed steroid that also maks him harder to peel off or kite, and a passive that effectively lets him break the attack speed cap (Double strike makes you attack twice every seventh attack so in the 2.4 seconds it takes a normal ADC to attack seven times he attacks 8 which means his AS effectively caps around 3.0 instead of 2.5) He has enormous damage potential but needs an equally enormous amount of farm to achieve it and because of his bad laneing phase he can't reliably achieve that amount of farm in a normal game.

AP Yi has a much more stable lane phase and team contribution so I would say he's more viable.

I'm going to ignore the fact that it is the complete SHAME of an AP Yi to lose out to Katarina, and that Darius actually sucks at straight fights before level 6, so AD Yi can work against him (not that it'll be easy).

AD Master Yi's kit gives him pretty much everything he needs to catch up to a carry and take them out. Alpha Strike's range is the same as, let's say... Ashe's basic attack range. With a support (MELEE AD CARRY + SUPPORT WORKS FINE AGAINST RANGED AD CARRY + SUPPORT IN BOTTOM LANE, EVEN BETTER THANKS TO S3) it's not too hard to force them to at least Flash or something.

AP Yi just doesn't give a damn about anyone with no CC thanks to Meditate. For that reason alone, Katarina's pretty much useless against people like Taric (I never have or will lose to a Katarina as Taric in mid) or Yi in mid.

    Just my two cents.
