oh the helm I would buy for that much money.......

EDIT: btw, $800 for leather armor is ridiculous. Even if it's pretty, leather isn't that expensive and neither are studs/rivets. I could get workable metal armor for that much.

quality leather armor is just as expensive as other armors, if you didn't actually know. Combat ready armor will always come at a high price especially when it's made with 100% authentic materials. I don't want 'pretty' armor. I want armor that withstands blows consistently and constantly. Pricing for armor will always be higher than it needs to be because of so few people making authentic armor.

workable/=/authentic in the rennesiance fair world.

Workable =/= not authentic

but in real terms, as authentic as possible while being safely battle ready is the best choice. Safety always comes before anything else in terms of fighting imo.

which leather is a medium that can be used to do that rather inexpensively...as opposed to metal

that's all I meant.

going for both authentic and workable is a bit more than that, considering an authentic workable piece of chain mail (mind you that would be hand set rivets and over 2 weeks of labor + depending on the workers) can cost up to 2000 dollars when just the normal stuff costs 800ish.

authenticity costs a lot nowadays x.x

and that's why most people learn to make their own armor...For example, my leather breastplate was made for another person similar in size to me (it's been fought in a lot already), but I also know the person who made it...that's how I ended up with the it (still had to buy it though).

It does have plastic plates (which offer similar protection to metal, but are lighter and cheaper) in the lower back for kidney protection (which I'm required to have), but the design itself is based off of authentic pieces of armor (hence the more androgynous shape, as separate cups for each breast aren't particularly authentic or safe for actual combat).
