Hi! I main support, and I am willing to help you with supporting :)

Although many people do not like support, I love supporting. You have to know this: while an AD Carry carries the game, a good support carries the AD Carry (and the team, with your wards and utilities). Think like this: your AD Carry is the main character, but you are the movie director. You control the entire flow of the game by supporting because of your wards on the map.

As a support, you want to let your AD Carry farm freely while not letting the opponent ADC freefarm. You also want to ward to see the jungler ganks. At teamfight phase, you want to cc the priority targets while protecting your carries.

3 Supports champion that I recommend are: Soraka, Sona, and Taric. Those three are relatively easier to learn. Also, I do also have Zyra Support guide, although she is relatively harder to learn.

If ADC keep blaming you, think WHY he is blaming you. Is he right? Then fix it. Is he wrong? You can just type @ignore [Insert Champion Name]

PM Me if you need help.

The Support Role is a difficult role to learn for most people. Most gamers develop Introverted mentalities, or that they think from the inside out, as opposed to extroverted, which is thinking from the outside in. To be a good support you need to learn Extroverted thinking. Instead of thinking "What do I need to do," you need to to think "What does the Team need to do?"

Most often this is by assisting you ADC in the early game. Everything you do has to be for your ADC in the first 10 minutes or so. you place wards at the jungle exits or in river to spot incoming ganks, you heal or shield her, in the case of tank supports, you apply your debuffs in a way that they can be maximised for more damage. your job at this stage is to figuratively spoon feed the ADC.

In the mid and late game, it's more of the same. place wards so your team can see what's up. apply your buffs and debuffs in smart ways (don't shield your ADC if she's not taking damage) and in team fights help peal away the tanks so that the enemy carries can be focused down. It's always going to be "What can I do for the team?" That's all there is to it.

When the team starts to blame you, although it may be hard to, just stuff it. take solace in the fact that you are doing everything in your power to help the team. maybe you forgot to ward dragon once but warding isn't solely the support's job. The jungler has more map presence and should also contribute to warding objectives. it is frustrating at times, but if you are doing your best, even at a loss just take a step back look at what happened and figure out what you could have done better, because there is always something that could be done better.

Techy stuff because I'm into that sort of thing

Well, those two answers pretty much sum up really well what you have to do.

One thing you should try is taking bot lane with a friend (He may be from real-life or someone you met in-game) If you are playing with someone you know and you are friendly with, things usually work better than playing with someone totally unknown for you.

If your friend does not want to go bot with you, at least you can ask him to call a lane for you while you are loading. And if none of these works, then support your way to victory.

There are a looot of guides for every kind of support, I would recommend that you get comfortable with 2 or 3.

And about the team blaming you, just cool down and rewind. It was your fault? If it was, apologize to the team, and learn from your mistakes. If it wasn't, apologize and keep going. Yeah I know, this is ********, but 90% of the players (and even more in ranked) have their pride over the skies, and they will NEVER accept that it was their fault, but someone's else (Mostly Jungler and Support, easy targets) Fighting back will only get problems and a guarranteed defeat. Even if you want to insult the **** out of him, hold on and calm down. You can report him later, and if he did some hard flame he will get banned ^^

I think your best option is taking some friends with you to help you out. Good luck in your way :P

Yo i also main support and solo top but usually go support when i am not a captain and what is the benefit of being a support?

a) YOU FREAKING CARRY THE CARRY :D

general tips for supporting.

1) grab gold per second quints and gold per second mastery, this will give you the ability to buy items without that much cs. also more cs plus gold for your carry.

2) just grab a boots. most carry doesn't need an upgrade until later in the game where being left behind would be disadvantageous. exception is janna, i usually buy her a tier 2 boots as her 4th or 5th item.

3) buy wards. cost efficient plus you have more options when a gank is eminent.

4) buy oracle if opposing support is warding. you'll get your gold back for killing their wards. more gold, more fun :D

5) get aura items to cover your team. this is usually the core items for supports just as much as IE for adc and void staff for AP

6) just try to help your carry outlive enemy. that is the basic role of supports. keep your lane mate healthy or help him secure kills as that is what your role is.

recommended supp champs that i had used?
1) janna. doesn't really need much items to be effective plus lot of clutch and battle changing skills. my fave.

2) taric. stun, heal plus bonus stats ? what else do you need ? second best imo.

3) zyra. not really fond of using her but can easily set up kills.

4) blits. same as zyra but gives more lane pressure.

5) Lux. although she is better as a mid laner, she still do good at giving sustain (shield) and an unparalleled lane pressure. plus you can rush a mejai and just go all out on support items for an additional ap (not recommended at high tiers though)

well hope that lightened a bit of your burden.
+rep if i helped or if you just happen to like repping ^^

Since you didn't provide answer, I'll take this short and I assume you're not playing competitively (ranked) or are 30 lvl yet.

I think support is one of the hardest roles to play properly. It depends on the champion also, but it's hard role as you have to take care of 2 v 2 lane. Just play supports you find fun. Play around with low cost supports to find out what kind of supports you like playing. (High poke, tanky, defensive, aggressive...

Best picks for competitive would be Lulu, Sona, Janna, Thresh etc.
