I can't give you advice from a high gold / plat perspective since I haven't reached that level yet, but I think the main thing is you shouldn't worry too much and focus on your own game. Make sure your mechanics are solid and you keep an eye on the map (obviously you have a support for this too, but relying on a random support in solo queue isn't necessarily the best idea).
I agree with Joxuu that the ability to trade aggressively (note: not overaggressively) is a pretty big difference between your average gold ADC and someone who belongs higher, I see most ADC players in gold miss a lot of opportunities to get out some auto attack harass on the enemy laners.
