IE does way more damage than BT, especially if you're playing an ADC with high attack speed like Tristana. Every now and again it doubles the damage of your AA, essentially having the same effect as you auto-attacking twice in the same instant. BT's lifesteal nor increased AD can't match up to that.
Actually the DPS breakdown is something like this (assuming level 11, both ADCS with average base 106 AD and 1.002 Attack Speed with Berserker's Greaves, and 0 Armor):
The empty BT gives us (176.6-106.4), or 70.2 DPS.
The full BT gives us (206.6-106.4), or 100.2 DPS
The IE gives us (245-106.4), or 138.6 DPS
Infinity Edge doubles Bloodthirster's DPS when it's unstacked but it costs 600 gold. For a start. Lifesteal is actually an important stat btw because it acts as effective Health in duels. The ADC that builds Bloodthirster will heal 1/5 of his DPS or 14-27,78 HP/s. This roughly diminishes Infinity Edge's advantage by the same amount (max value would be 110,88 DPS) so you're roughly spending 600 more gold to get a... 10 DPS advantage?
Obviously if you're just aiming for lategame, this is a better option because Infinity Edge acts as a damage amplifier and it performs better with more items. But still there is no guarantee that you will actually be able to capitalise on getting kills later on to farm it up and before you get those 600 extra gold, your opponent will have a full item so you're actually setting yourself behind since you can't trade with a B. F. Sword and a Pickaxe.
This is the reason why Infinity Edge based ADCs have bad midgames ( Caitlyn, Tristana...) - the item by itself isn't a great damage multiplier neither it gives you dueling power fast enough. They want to rush it because it gets them faster into lategame and they're basically auto-attackers so they can't get a burst advantage over their opponents.
Sorry if I sound redundant with my posting but I do think I'm right with this (probably not with many stuff but I've made my homework with ADC itemization).
