Chance, when I recommend guides I look for:
+ Gives hints about keeping the guide updated.
+ Has a to-do list (shows the guide is always growing).
Hopefully that gives you some insight :)
- I can see the guide author knows/mastered the Champion(s).
- Is thorough in his explanations.
- In-depth (somewhat connected to the one above)
- Well written, in good language, and is not an eye-sore.
- Responds well to questions and suggestions in the comment section.

Haha, i guess im just remotely jealous i dont have one for the majority of time ive put into my guide. :x
Biased opinion of course.
But all i did was make a Updated AP Sion guide. Which isnt really bending anything out of the ordinary. Maybe i should make a Hybrid guide or something. Bend it out of the ordinary like how Chaotic says.
But from your bullets for recommending a guide, i kinda accomplish all of them in my only guide. :D

I'd say that out of the 10 guides on the front page, 5 of them are new, original, and deserve to be up there.

Ive keep seeing guides that are typical. AP Akali, Hybrid Akali, Crit Planks, etc. So many things I see are cookie cutter. I see things like AP Shen, but Ive only seen one really good one. If I was to comment on 75% of the guides I see, I would say things like: This is standard. Anyone can stack <insert item> and have a GG.
I like the way this is explained, but I see this almost every other guide.
But I do see guides like a Hybrid Kennen, that I liked but my comment was contructive. When people take the effort to change the way a champion can be played, I will comment, help make it better, and vote. If the guide really unique, I will do my damnest to make sure that the one that made it gets the dredit they deserve.
Example. A tank Rammus guide that didnt follow the normal means of tanking. Took Utility over Defence but explained why. They took time and great detail to make the guide. They put a lot of work into and got flammed. I liked the build and I gave the only +1. I commend users that take champions and push the limits.
Sometime offbeat guides fail, but they fail due to the fact they dnt clarify enough. When things arent the normal, people need to be talked to like they are 5 years old. Im not trying to insult anyone, but its true. We have to explain things as simple as possible so some people can make teh connection.
Flame me for this. Tell me Im wrong, but I see no reason for pushing away guides that are unique and uplifting cookie cutters. I think it should be the other way around. Hmmmmm off to Vet Forums
