So when does the contest actually start? For example, if I update my guides at the very start of judging time would that still count or would I need to have the guides updated at some point before-hand?

I assume it starts now and just closes 7 days after S4 starts. Because it's closed when the judging process starts, no. You can't just update your guide when judging starts.

What about having a "runner-up" for each category? Runner-ups don't have to win anything, just getting a mention would be awesome. Also, each award could have a small official logo or banner-like thing stating which category they won.
It would be pretty nice to come 2nd/runner-up for a category and have a small icon that I could put in my guide as a reward (for example).
Or maybe "Honourable Mentions"? I can imagine it's going to be pretty hard to choose just one guide for each category; there are so many excellent guide writers here at MobaFire :)
