When streaming, you're advertising for the game you're playing. If you are being paid by Riot/LoL to be a pro member, and receiving pay for playing League of Legends, then you should be playing League of Legends.
Too many pro players were effectively advertising Hearthstone etc while waiting in queue; Riot doesn't want to pay these people to play other games.
If they want to play Hearthstone etc, they can do it without streaming on their League of Legends related streaming account.

i think its dumb considering people at riot know that they have 20 minute queues in D1/challenger, and it makes it feel like LCS players are objects of riot rather than people since theyre controlling what they do in their free time now, im pretty sure that even though football players and such have contracts like this it doesnt mean they arnt allowed to play baseball or wear different shoes in their free time when they arnt practicing, if someone really enjoys streaming any game then let them its their free time not yours

The thing is that the LCS players are off the clock when they are streaming. They are playing in Solo Q and for the most part they are messing around and trying weird things. LCS players are paid to win games against other LCS teams, So their 9 to 5 is focused on winning those games. Once they clock out for the day then it should not matter what they stream or why. If I decided to stream Starcraft as an LCS player because I had a bad day for whatever reason and didn't want to touch League for the night then why shouldn't I be able to?

Play whatever game you want to play, as a pro League of Legends player, just don't stream on your League of Legends associated account.
They are famous because of LoL. They get money from streaming because of LoL. Streaming Starcraft on their LoL handle is something they shouldn't be doing. That's what Riot is trying to prevent.

The difference is, that football player isn't playing baseball on national TV. That person wearing the wrong shoes is not broadcasting to the world.
I don't understand how you guys aren't getting that streaming =/= free time. When you stream, you make money. It's that simple. It's no longer your "free time" if someone is paying for it.

Think of it as the NBA. They put up the money, they make the rules. The players have a dress code, can't do a lot of ****, pay fines left and right. The business model is similar. I believe, if the trend continues, that teams will eventually become franchises, if this whole thing gets big enough.
Riot is completely in their power to do what they did. People that aren't against this need to realize that steaming, as a media, is even more powerful than TV since it lets you choose, without having to pay for anything other than your internet provider, what you want to watch. I know, TV is trying to mimic this but it doesn't even come close. Imagine if you wanted to watch an NBA game on ESPN, but the dudes decided to play baseball instead. Not only are they advertising another sport, they aren't giving the audience what they want and that affects the ones that are paying for the whole show: the sponsors.
So, if Dyrus is one of the best players and garners a whole lot of attention, why wouldn't Riot want his exposure to revolve around League, when under contract, instead of playing Hearthstone and indirectly supporting a competing business?
It all comes down to revenues and profits. Riot has a MAJOR product in it's hands and they need to do everything in their power to make sure they keep growing, and that involves everyone.

Without LoL, they wouldn't have viewers for their stream.
why would they want to stream another game? you know that money for streaming right? and everyone wants to watch dyrus stream LoL not freakin....dota or somethin....he will get more views by streaming LoL....more views = more monies....and everyone loves monies....everyone.

While I've never heard of someone like Dyrus play anything other than League on his stream, I wouldn't have minded much if he decided to stream another game once just to see how his skills would have translated to something like Starcraft.
I kind of understand Riots point of view but I also think it is a bit much. If Dyrus streams Starcraft once I don't think it takes away from League of Legends. It's like a basketball player saying he plays football with his family on Thanksgiving.
