You are definetly underestimating the early game power of supports.

In low tiers, people don't really understand the concept of trading and chunking someone to low hp with Sona is really easy in the early game. If you feel like you're in this situation where your lane partner doesn't follow up, you should play a champion that does enough on it's own like Lulu, Sona or even Thresh, because with him you can gank other lanes, if they do well enough. Just don't play low-impact garbage like Janna. Peeling for someone who can't position himself is not really worth it.

And always think about your game like this: if you have 4 idiots on your side then good for you, because enemy team has 5.
Every time you succeed, I bleed a little.

I'm in agreement with what most everyone said here when it comes to carrying yourself out of bronze/ low silver (silver 3 atm, not much but hey still better than a majority of players.)

Back in october/novemeber i was stuck in low bronze at bronze 4 and every game i would consistently blame teammates for making plays that in my mind were really bad plays. Yet i never really focused on what *I* was doing wrong and wasn't improving. Then end of season was rolling around and i really wanted that shiny silver boarder. That's when i really started to improve as a player. Whenever i could i would go top with Singed as he is my main man and i would litterally destroy my lane each and every game and carried myself by just plain split pushing in low bronze as i was usually strong enough to handle about 3-4 people after me while my team decided to get towers/objectives.

I never made it to silver in season 3 unfortunately but i was still determined to improve and get that silver so in the pre-season alone i went from about the b2 i was at the time all the way up through bronze 1 and finally settling into mid way through silver 4 before the reset came along. Then came Placements and to my dissapointement i was placed bronze 2 after some very uncarryable games. Then i thought * If i can carry myself out once... i can do it again. And you know what? within about 25-30 games i was back where i actually belong. Climbed to silver 3 where i have since taken a somewhat of a break from ranked on my main account.

I have been wanting to improve my play on other roles except top. i coincidently have a wife that also plays and she mains supports. She unfortunately doesn't like the supports i do like my leona and so i had to take the support journey on her account with the likes of soraka, lulu, janna, sona, etc. I've seen her play enough soraka to know her pretty well and so in her 10 placement matches i got to go top twice since someone else wanted to support. went teemo and kayle top as those were pretty much the only picks. Then wehenever i could support i would take the almighty soraka and spam those starcalls to victory winning most of my games and getting a 70% winrate landing me exactly where my main account is which is in silver 3.

Ending every single support games with over 20-30 assists and lower than 6 deaths on most games and a few kills on the way which made the team as a whole very strong and made me in fact one of the main carries through all my assists i had given to the team.

So from that i learned YES you can carry from support and can get into silver or gold or higher with just support. You just have to have decent knowledge of the game and you will climb. Bot lane has always been my major weakness and why i took up support to try and improve my play. Which surprised me as i was placed directly where im meant to be in silver.

Sorry for the long paragragh of text. i just really wanted to highlight that it is possible to climb eve with those *idiot adc's and team mates you were talking about*. Just gotta learn basic mechanics and knowledge of the game to climb and think of ways to *outsmart* your opposite laners.

Hope this helps you in thinking on how to improve as i have improved tremendously in the last 2-3 ish months and now know anything is possible if you take time to acutally learn and stop blaming your teammates for your loses.

After reading these posts, I feel like I am not only playing on different server, but on different world as well. :/

Laning phase is usually no problem for me. I ward, I harass, zone... in 7 out of 10 matches I dominate the laning phase and unless my ADC is really dumb or has bad reflexes, we can get few kills (1-2 even for me) and only occasional deaths (I try to die instead of my ADC if possible).

But after the first turret goes down, it all changes. And I don't know what to do. If situation is in our favour, I try to ping turret with least amount of health, ask in the chat if we can regroup on that lane and push the tower all together (or at least 3-4 of us)... but nobody cares. Jungler has to go clear the jungle camps (not even buffs) despite the fact he is ahead. Others do other.. stuff.

Or I ping and call dragon, go there, ward/deward - set it all up - but nobody comes. Then the enemy comes to do the dragon, so I retreat, just to see some other team mate running in there and engaging in 1v4 while the rest of us is scattered across the map.

I don't know. I run out of ideas what to do. I'm sure there is a lot I can do better, I just don't know what and how. In those videos on YT I watched about my favourite supports - it all just works. Then I join YoloQ and it doesn't :/
I thank myself for this awesome sig!!!

Who dares insult the great might that is Janna?

FYI: below isn't meant as a reaction on the post above, it was posted while I was writing this.

And I think that, as a support, if your team doesn't "follow you" it's partly your fault. Telling fools friends what to do and making sure they don't eat one another is just another task of a support in my opinion. Be nice, give tips, lend a hand, ping them to death(don't spam though) and say something like "**** happens" if they say they screwed up or make amends. Humor is gold. And never underestimate the power of the anonymous blue ping. Prevent blaming by all means possible.

Making sure they push all lanes before they start picking fights is half of the late game in my opinion. The enemy shouldn't be able to get to an objective then too.

I think the main part of the support role in soloQ is psychological: coordination, encouraging, keeping the team together and manipulating fear and morale, both by in-game presence as in the chat-box and mini-map. Losing the faith of your other team members is usually fatal unless you can fall back to the blue ping.

One can go on about things like this forever but I think experience is the best way to go. Try some things out and see how people react.

Well at least it's less dramatically written than some of the guides on good behavior :D

Janna is a beast... for a team that knows what its doing. Wouldn't recommend her for low elo, ever. Most carries there just go into the middle of the fray and complain afterwards that no one peeled. Seriously, I had the hardest time playing Janna because people just don't get what you bring to the team. Ask them if they knew her shield gave them AD. Go ahead.

Learn Thresh. Profit. Even noobs should follow up if you land a hook. That's a problem sometimes, because all you wanted was to buy them time to escape and they re-engage when you land the hook. Funny but stupid.
This champion is fun and strong and very able to carry. I have a ~75% win rate on this sucker.

Other than that, the aforementioned Lulu and Sona can also make up for dumb teammates. Go support, build some damage after talisman of ascension/ Sightstone and use clutch ultimates. Post-game will be like 'damn support carry, gj dude' and ****.

TL;DR: supports can carry.

I'd rather play Karma over Sona right now.

My dad's in Silver V and she seems to work just as well there as she works for me in Gold.

Sona's base health and armor are kinda low, which makes her a bit less forgiving to play early game.

Dude! WTF?! Janna is the most impactfull Support ever in team fights! I've been climbing the ladder by playing 90% of my games with Janna for 3 seasons. Hidden OP and requires a lot of skills.
