Elementz did Naut support in the NA LCS last season. I wouldn't do it now just because of that but it would definitely be fun in normals. The main thing in competitive though is that Leona exists and she is a bit better in that initiating or counter-initiating with her ult isn't as bad as Naut's ult, among other things. I do love me some Depth Charge but the slow movement of it makes it easy to just turn tail and run so the enemy team can't murder you (I assume the adc would be your target because it should be).
A support I'd love to try for norms would be Jarvan IV. I did it once or twice and it was pretty silly but that was last season. I'd love to see him with all the new support goodies.

Maokai is in a bad spot and supporting doesn't help him.
Nautilus is decent but lacks sustain and damage enough that all his CC doesn't justify picking him over Leona.
Jarvan IV is a great support for playing around, he can make kills happen easy. Go up against a semi-decent Thresh and he's useless.

Actual controversial supports would be more like Velkoz or Rengar etc.
Support Vel'Koz is a poor replacement for support Brand, who is himself an inferior support Annie.
And I actually like playing with support Rengar, although it is more of a kill lane. At Level 6 his ult means he can do a complete all-in from the bushes and cast his empowered bolas for a good root and then land some solid damage on them.
