Jarvan's E-Q is so nerfed... I honestly wouldn't play him in higher ELOs anymore, EVERY SINGLE E-Q combo gets sidestepped.
If you insist on playing him however, hydra rush is best in solo lanes, and lizard rush > golem rush most games out of the jungle.

J4 isn't as bad as you make it sound H4x. Yeah, they reduced the radius but it's justified tbh because a lot of ****ty J4's would get free knockups for being close. At least they put the skill in 'skillshots'. He still has the potential to get free flashes early game and his damage is pretty decent now. I think he can be top tier if more people play him.

He's still one of the champions who can deal a ****load of damage while actually being tanky through

Not gonna argue with H4x here though, I have yet to play J4 at high Plat and Diamond this season so I'll see and report back once I'm there. Also, H4x, Elo is a name, not an abbreviation that should be capitalised. Just sayin'.

Ackerman and NoName both played Jarvan versus T8 in the NACS. He can't be that bad, H4x.

Thanks to The_Nameless_Bard for the sig!
I don't think he isnt viable, but I don't think there is ever a reason to pick him now in the jungle unless Vi, Elise, Pantheon, and Kha'Zix aren't available, and you don't play Lee. As for top lane I feel like hes fine as a counterpick. Recently dexter played jarvan against tsm (i think) in the LCS to total ineffectiveness as well.
I watched the set against Team 8. Noname was way less effective out of the jungle compared to Guess's Vi (i think it was vi) and they ended up losing that game. (their first loss in challenger series I believe) Jarvan top is a different story. Californiatrlolz is a well known vlad player, (think he picked it every game) and for a long time I've felt that Jarvan is a good pick vs AP tops, and as expected, ackerman destroyed him. To be fair though, 1. calitrollz got counterpicked I believe, and 2. ackerman has played pro LoL in chinese LPL (which contains arguably the best top lane j4 player in the world, PDD), whereas calitrollz has only played NA amateur scene and solo queue. (not really any notable high elo jarvan solo lane player in NA afaik)
I feel jarvan is a far better solo laner right now because you CANT MISS EQ ON A CC'D TARGET. Every good jungler has a hard CC right now, and when he doesn't have to initiate a gank himself on someone looking out for an EQ he is much more potent. (think noname was on elise that game, that they destroyed team 8, not sure).
As for the EQ nerf, I'm not entirely sure it was necessary. Every one of the junglers that are top tier at the moment have something ridiculously obnoxious that keeps them viable.(except MAYBE lee) That's just how good junglers have been for the longest time in league. His damage has always been good, there was just no reason to build any before s4 besides maybe a brutalizer since lizard was poopy in late s3. His base stats actually aren't that spectacular (COMPARED TO OTHER BRUISERS), his E passive is supposed to sorta make up for that, which it does a decent job at doing.
Maybe I have jarvan bias where I miss the days of him being top tier, but when he got nerfed he wasn't the #1 jungler IMO.

h4x is right about everything but the EQ combo. Its not as nerfed as you make it out to be. True, it was really nerfed but you can still land it pretty consistently if you are patient with it.
that being said, whoever made the topic: id advise to take trinity force out of there. Its a good item but costs too much and there are items just as useful but cheaper

Proud Coach of MHS League of Legends Teams.

A simple sidestep dodges almost every EQ combo nowadays. That and the fact that J4's damage on Q isn't directly tied to the EQ hitbox makes it very very annoying to land.
I don't remember who, but I remember an LCS jungler saying when asked about jarvan, "It just seems like everyone learned how to play against him, and then they nerfed his E-Q and now nobody hits it anymore."

Should note that he said he was kinda forced into that because of the other bans/picks that game. It's not a champ he's very comfortable on and it showed.
