I usually go the sneaky/thinking route so I hardly use followers, but I think Serana has a lot of dialogue so that's nice I guess. And she has a high sneaking skill so that's definitely a pro too. On top of that, she's a bloody vampire(yeah I know) with magic skills.
I tried the ESO beta and it was terrible in my opinion. I was pretty hyped with all the story tidbits they were throwing about before some actual footage was released... Oh well.
Political question: Imperial Legion, Stormcloaks or truce? I went for the Stormcloaks on my first character but I think I'll go for truce this time around. I always go with the Stormcloak at the Helgen escape though.

I had the feeling that Ulfric has no idea what the hell he is doing, which is why I joined him the first time :P
The second time I fought against him for the same reason :P

In Helgen I went with the Imperial guy and when I got to Riverwood he suggested I joined the Imperials. I went to Windhelm shortly afterwards and I accidentally got the Stormcloak's quest too (think I just spoke to Ulfric and he was like OH SO YOU WANNA JOIN THE STORMCLOAKS?). I was like lol no where do I sign up for the Imperials. I went to Solitude after having acquired the Stormcloak's quest and I acquired the Imperials one. "Defeat the bandit camp" or "Kill an Ice Wraith". I'd never encountered bandits before and taking a whole encampment sounded crazy. I read into the ice wraith thing and I got like poisons and an Ice resistant potion and went on my way to find an ice wraith. Paid like 400 septims or something for the Ice potion and I killed the thing in two hits. To be fair they do look scary! Anyway so that's how I ended up becoming a Stormcloak... it became really awkward later on as Ulfric was giving out speeches about us being true nords and how elves suck and should die and stuff (my character was a wood elf).
Depending on the order in which they are completed, the Civil War can have an impact on the Main Quest, and vice versa. In the main quest, Season Unending is a meeting between five factions (the Stormcloaks, the Legion, the Blades, the Thalmor and the Greybeards) to negotiate a truce, which temporarily pauses the Civil War.
If the Civil War is completed before Season Unending, the peace conference will not be held, and the later quest will not occur.
If Season Unending is completed before the Civil War ends, it will change territories under the control of both the Imperials and the Stormcloaks.
