Playing AD Kennen isn't focused around skills, but if you really want to play him hybrid I'd suggest something like:
Sorcerer's Shoes - Blade of the Ruined King - Nashor's Tooth - Hextech Gunblade - Bloodthirster - Guardian Angel.
That would give you quite a lot of AD, while also maintaining a nice ~ 150 AP + some magic penetration.

Also, thanks for your +1!

I think this was a good guide, personally I was looking at methods of how to play Kennen and his strong and weak points. I can tell you play him a lot as you can point these things out. Thanks for the guide :D but I may suggest that a hybrid Kennen might be easier to play, his skills are kind of hard to abuse when AD. Otherwise it's great!

yea this guide is great, ap kennel just wasn't doing it for me, I tried adc bot which is good but very easily countered (his short attack range) and then I tried top, I ended up against a kha'zix, I thought it was gg he would win lane but kennen can just zone amazingly meaning I could farm in peace and go on to carry my team :)

Yup, that's indeed what AD Kennen in toplane is all about. Farm, farm, farm and deny your enemy. Kha'Zix for me wasn't a favorable matchup for AP Kennen, because landing Thundering Shurikens against him is hard. Good to hear AD Kennen works against him!

Yup, I agree on that totally. Kennens stun is harder to get off than, for example, Tarics. But keep in mind the fact that kennen has the opportunity to stun whole teams, which I believe only a few champions can. (e.g. Veigar).

Stun based Kennen is indeed harder to get kills with, but I would like to see it on a team with 2 hyper-carries ( Katarina and Vayne) to make them function better.

Thanks for replying, I wasn't aware of Will of the Ancients. My friend played a variation of this last night, and said while it was fun, without the dedicated AP it was hard to kill, and getting AOE stuns was still hard. I believed he used Zephyr instead of Blade of the Ruined King. Defensively he used Zhonya's Hourglass for when he pops his R. Wit's End also might be a good choice as well to include.

My take is that while Kennen is ranged, there are other toons that can inflict stun much easier, and that contributes to Kennen's lack of playtime and popularity. Certainly lots of ideas to play with....

Getting 40% CDR would give your Thundering Shurikens a 2.4s cooldown, which is indeed pretty nice assuming you also have Runaan's Hurricane and Electrical Surge to apply marks. The only point is that getting to hit everyone on their team with a Thundering Shuriken is pretty hard, as it is a skillshot and carries will most of the time be 'hiding' behind their tanks.
Nevertheless, if you want to go for attack speed / cooldown reduction Kennen, I would recommend you the following items:
Nashor's Tooth - big chunk of both attack speed and cooldown reduction, with some nice added damage to your spells and auto-attacks as well.
Runaan's Hurricane - as explained in the guide for applying marks to everyone.
Will of the Ancients - ability power, spell vamp and cooldown reduction which are all pretty awesome on Kennen.
Blade of the Ruined King - attack speed, life steal, attack damage and a passive / active to deal with those pesky tanks. No reason to not get this.
Ionian Boots of Lucidity - with this, Nashor's Tooth and Will of the Ancients you will have capped out your CDR.
Guardian Angel - for some defense and a second life.
You now have a 160% boost on your attack speed, 40% CDR and you deal pretty good damage (both magic and physical). It is hard to itemize against you and you can indeed stun their whole team pretty easily. I could see it work out.

I play Teemo and was looking for an alternate toon to play and came across Kennen and was intriqued by your guide. I have played him a bit, and find he is pretty tricky to play, especially getting the stuns off successfully. One thing that makes Teemo fun (and insanely powerful) is Runaan's Hurricane and I can't see any reason why this wouldn't work well with Kennen and his stuns.

I haven't seen anyone focus on a pure AOE version of Kennen that focuses on cool downs and attack speed. The problem I have had with Kennen is with the long cool down of Electrical Surge. It seems to me Thundering Shuriken can get a 4 sec cooldown at max without any item or rune support. With Rune + Mastery + items I would think you could get a pretty frequent Shuriken going while applying the status effect getting AOE stuns from your Q. Your thoughts?
