I gave AtlA a go a while ago but couldn't get into it. There is a degree of realism that must exist in any piece of media if it is to be popular. AtlA had some but sometimes I was bothered by how unrealistic at some points it got. Nonetheless I watched them while I was babysitting so that LoK could become clearer. Both were relatively childish in their own right so as a result i'm sure if korra was there in place of it Avatar you probably would have liked it just as much. Either way, that is just about as far as my anime venture has taken me.
AtlA was childish because the characters were children. LoK just felt teenage high school drama childish, which I wouldn't have even liked in HS and really didn't like as an adult.

I'm pretty much the same and it's pretty much how everything works for me. Games, Movies, Tv-shows, girls etc. if the first 30-60 min doesn't catch my attention I will probably just loose interest immediately. But sometimes I force myself to spend some more time on it and in 9 out of 10 times I realize how fkn right I was those first 30-60 min :P
I'm pretty good about watching things, but for some reasons animes just don't keep my attention at all.

It would be smarter to compare two pieces of media with equal budgets and runtimes.
If money just keeps being thrown at something until it looks good then it's obviously gonna look better than something made with a budget hundreds of times smaller. And if something meant to go on for 90minutes gets the same budget as something meant to go on for 300-600minutes then it's obviously gonna have more polish.

I'm honestly drawing a blank thinking of any shows that regularly portray powers like that. Doctor Who maybe? It's the only one I watch. xD (I assume it's hour long run time and generally lower budget for a live action show better matches some of the better anime productions, correct me if I'm wrong.)

The point was that when you were a kid loving Avatar, you probably would have loved Korra aswell. But times have changed and we have grown from what we once thought as entertaining.

Well it all comes down to preference. I personally didn't mind the show. It wasn't as jaw dropping for me as it was my 10 year old brother.

I like how you compare girls to pieces of entertainment. As if you weren't already branded as enough of a douche around here.

I'm confused why we're even talking about AtlA and Korra at all since they're not anime. :D

For me anime is just like any other TV medium. I'll watch it if it's good. Some people watch every anime imaginable just because they like the style, but a lot of people just watch particular shows because they just want to watch a good show.

Well It's still true, would you spend time with someone you don't enjoy hanging out with? Do you feel better if I put boys in there for you instead?

You could put people in general in there instead and it would probably be applauded.

Basically MOBAFire.

How are Airbender and LoK not anime? Cause they aren't Japenese made? That's like literally the only reason they wouldn't be. And it's kind of a silly one.

anime = Japanese Animation, that is the definition of anime.

an·i·me
ˈanəˌmā/
noun
a style of Japanese film and television animation, typically aimed at adults as well as children.

It would be similarly silly to define anime by style, considering how many different styles there are. Japanese Animation is a clearer definition.

EDIT: I only read the first half of the OP / title, but now that I fully read it I see why we're talking about Korra. :P So when I saw "what's the deal with anime?" then people talking about Korra it got me confused. In this case, I will try to think of some shows that I feel are similar to Korra in what's good about them. :)
