Yeah, not gonna lie about my opinion on this, but those parents are pretty naive stupid if they think that rule should be the case.

Like, that throws out every single negative criticism that anyone can ever make. Guess our LoL shoutcasters will have only good stuff to say about all the teams from now on. After all, if y'ain't sayin' anything nice, you should stfu, because clearly that's a nice thing to say too.

Seriously, why does everyone miss the implied hypocrisy when they say that?

Sidenote: Tact is a good practice, yes, but not saying anything just because it's not nice is pretty dumb.

The expression doesn't mean "don't ever say anything that isn't nice," it means "if the only thing you have to say is not nice, don't say it." There's a pretty big different there. Of course, there are situations where the extent of the wisdom of a simple expression can't reach, but a thread where people post pictures of their faces isn't one of them.

Okay, in that instance, apparently I can't criticise bronze players even if everything they do is wrong. The reasoning is STILL flawed. It's not wisdom, because it's not a particularly valid principle anyway, regardless of what thread this is.

It's just a common proverb that doesn't stand the test of scrutiny. There's no practical or ethical reason why I shouldn't say anything if all I can say are bad things. That's just being a sensitive little -censored-.

Yeah, my parents(mostly mom since dad spent more time working) were pretty dumb. Can't argue against that.

Yes, oh yes. Definitely agree on this :)
"Moral justification is a powerful disengagement mechanism. Destructive conduct is made personally and socially acceptable by portraying it in the service of moral ends." - Albert Bandura

"Ultimately, if people lose their willingness to recognize that there are times in our history when legality becomes distinct from morality, we aren't just ceding control of our rights to government, but our futures." - Edward Snowden

As I already stated, the wisdom of a common expression only goes so far. But there is wisdom in it, nonetheless. I fully agree with you that you should criticize the errors bronze players make (that is, teach them what they did wrong and how they could improve, not just say "hurr durr ur terrible"). In this thread, however, what does insulting someone accomplish? Nothing, really. So, yes, the expression does stand the test of scrutiny when you analyze it in a fair manner.

That's because it's not really wisdom at all, that's the point I'm making. It's an expression that only comes up when someone is butthurt. It's motivated by emotion, not by any form of 'wisdom'.

Like I said, it's good to be tactful, but if that's all that needs to be said, I don't need to bring some nonsensical common saying into it. Also, it's rather rude, considering that Searz sometimes actually does have decent things to say.

I'm not agreeing that Amanda was fishing for compliment (though he did note it was implicit, which is, tbh, something that anyone posting a picture is doing, so it seems that it has to extend to pretty much everyone in this thread who posted a picture).

Yes hello I am a nobody here, despite playing LoL since S2. I'm a mod over on smitefire but never dipped my toe over here, figured this might be a good place to start :)

Anyway, brief intro before faces to names, since what use is a face if there's no personality to match it to?

Played WoW since 2 days after release (Actually hit 100 on my warrior sunday), played video games since 3 years old, always been keen to PvP based games since my reaction time and learning curve are both solid. Aside from WoW, and technically the CoD franchise, League has been my longest-standing PvP game, so maybe I'll hop around these forums when I'm looking for discussion or theorycrafting, or when Smitefire is dead.

Anyway, enough intro for someone no one knows, here's a relatively recent photo from college. (Sorry for size)

This is why I fail to see the point of getting involved. Even assuming I was intentionally trying to get attention, unless you'd call out anyone who did so, you should stay out of it.

Mk, I realize my words have just started a wildfire, for which I am sorry. But I do hope you've gotten my point. Opinions can be great but if you are going out of your way to unnerve someone, you need to stop, it is not beneficial to anybody and is only going to make that person feel, unpleasant. And yeah I get it, we are on the internet, it should be expected that there will be rude people, but that does not mean people like Searz should allow themselves to be that way. Any who I just wanted to use a bare bones philosophy that tends to prevent situations like this from happening, but some people had felt the need to started applying it to any scenario that they know wouldn't make sense, which isn't really all that fair in my opinion.
