What about the last few episodes then? There's at least some romance in the series I think. The genres you mentioned also apply of course.

Problem is that the romance tag was combined with a shounen.
So people, who expect a serieous developement and maybe focus, will be disappointed.

Pretty much. Nothing stems from the last few episodes. There's very little development. It's just one big giant ****tease.

But the last episode is really rich with symbolism. There's a reddit post somewhere about it...

Well, Lifebaka, it took a bloody while, but it seems like episode 9 of Cross Ange is the dark I was looking for, in case you haven't seen it yet. The rest was pretty much like you had predicted though, so your orb is still brighter than mine xD

Does anyone have a pretty chill romance-ish anime to recommend?

I don't really watch this type of anime often but if it's of any help I really really liked the atmosphere of kokoro - connect

Uh, slice of life romance I'm guessing? I'd say Sakurasou is probably the best in that kind of genre. If you just want a chill anime in general, then Usagi Drop is your best option.
