Well, Lifebaka, it took a bloody while, but it seems like episode 9 of Cross Ange is the dark I was looking for, in case you haven't seen it yet. The rest was pretty much like you had predicted though, so your orb is still brighter than mine xD

Uh, slice of life romance I'm guessing? I'd say Sakurasou is probably the best in that kind of genre. If you just want a chill anime in general, then Usagi Drop is your best option.
